Hi All
I just bough 3 bales of Pro-Mix and they say they have lime in it i have read a lot of post on here about it and some say they put some in and some say they don't and some just uses right out of the bag and some add pine bark fines so i am trying to find the best way to pot my figs in some are ready to pot .
I was looking at some post on Fertilizers some go with 10-10-10- some 24-8-16 and so on so i guess it comes down to what Pro-Mix HP has in there mix the PH and what i am looking to do i don't want fast growing i would like to get about 2'' from each leaf they say figs grow fast anyway i would really like to here from you guys and gals using Pro-Mix HP and what you think on this mater .
I have been growing all kind of plants for over 50 years but figs are new to me so i will take the cotton out of my ears and put it in my mouth and see what you guys and gals have to say lol :)
I live in RI the weather is up and down all the time i don't know if i should put my new fig plants out side this year or keep them in but i have read they need to get cold for awhile so any help on that would be great .
I am from the old school and here a lot of old school here i here a lot of new school here and iam not to old to learn new tricks lol i have used some of the new school way and done well i put most of my cutting in 20 oz clear cups with wholes in the bottom in some in the sides all so i used Perlite 100 % i watered with Canna Aqua Vega A&B and my plants have done well thanks to RichinNJ post thank you Rich thing went great ,heat pad on 80 water everyday with the Canna A&B Grow light and man they took off i will post some pictures soon so after all the care i gave them i really want to have a fair chance at growing them out to be nice trees i am hooked big time and hell i love it :).
I do want to thank all the members who have already helped me big time and want to thank you all for being part of my life and being part of this Great site it is the best :).

I use small pine bark chunks, not fines.  Pine has a secondary effect of adding calcium to the soil so I don't worry about it.  If it has added lime I wouldn't use extra calcium the first year but I might in the second.

Lime is added to potting mixes to counteract the acidity of peat moss. Most potting mix (to my understanding) is fairly balanced in pH and should be fine for figs. I don't think it would hurt to add lime, but it's probably not necessary.
