ProMix ultimate?

Recently I found at a Home Depot a ProMix variety called ProMix Ultimate. I cannot locate this item on the ProMix company's website - http://www.promixfindgrowtopia.com/    It seems to be mostly peat with some perlite.  It was billed on package as being great for starting seedlings. Came in a 2 cu ft bale, says it expands to 4 cu ft.

I have tried using it this year (mixed with 1/2 to 1/3 perlite for improved drainage, hopefully) when putting my rooted cuttings into 32 oz cups, seems to be working ok so far, may hold a little more water than I would like. Anyone else with experience with this stuff?

I think it may be the same as this item, although the packaging looks different:

I will try to get a pic of the package when I get home, and post it here.

Hi Ed,

That is odd, I've never heard of that either and just checked ProMix's website recently as well. I always see the HP version at HD though.

I think a picture of the package would really help with the mystery.

Best,

I"m not familiar with that product nor that web site, I've searched for things before at http://www.pthorticulture.com/en/ and don't see the product listed there either.

The Home Depot's in my area do not carry ProMix at all.  Then the cost on line plus shipping make it cost prohibitive. Is it really worth the price that is asked for it?

Use this stuff all the time, just keep your eye on it in summer when hot, will dry out fast. I mix in 25% perlite to 50% for cuttings.

When you take a picture of the label, take a picture of the UPC code, also known as the bar code. Try searching the internet the UPC number.

maybe this is it   http://www.gardenharvestsupply.com/productcart/pc/premier-pro-mix-ultimate-organic-seeding-mix-16-quart-p2176.htm

Its about $23-24 here at our HD. I like it because I don't get any pests (i.e. fungus gnats) with this medium.

I like it. Worth the additional $8 or so. :)

Thanks, all, for the help.  The package doesn't quite look like those pictured.  I will get a pic tonight to compare but likely won't get to post it until tomorrow.  This is the only kind of ProMix I found at my nearest Home Depot.  Another store in the area had either ProMix BX or ProMix HP last year at $32 / bale, seemed too expensive by far.

I think I got this bale for abt $19, and I think I am going to go back and buy up several more if my cuttings continue to do well. I have approx 30 5 gallon SIPs I am working on for last year's acquisitions.

When people previously have said they could not find ProMix HP in their area I suggested that they check their local hydroponic shops and that has worked out well.  Those pot heads always use the best "stuff" man.

Hello everyone,

I am Romy at PRO-MIX. I am working at the Communications Dept. I just saw your discussion doing some research on google. Is there any way I could help you? Customer services could tell you where to find the product you are looking for. Please let me know here, or send an email to services@pthorticulture.com

Here is the picture of the product I referenced above:

And the barcode:

Just wondered if others had used this product with just-rooted fig cuttings, and if there were any issues with too much water retention.

Romy, how does this product compare with your other products, since it does not appear on your website?  Is it a discontinued item?

PRO-MIX Ultimate is located here on the RETAIL website: http://www.promixfindgrowtopia.com/product/detail/pro-mix-ultimate-all-purpose-mix

You can enter your zipcode in "Find a Store" at the bottom of the same page. I should get back to you on Monday with more information about this specific product (I asked the customer services) Have a nice weekend
