Protecting Some Plants tonight

Tonight and tomorrow low temps will be 45, i dont think it went past 65 to 67 today. Ischia, Madeira, Sals Corleone, Negretta, Pastiliere, Baby Portuguese,J Tiger, Kalamata ,some have figs some not and im not going to let a rare spell of early cold weather curl em leaves no no. Another special one outdoor i just throw a bed sheet over to keep the wind off a little which we have plenty off. Its the wind that adds a bad element here coupled with the cold.
My adults will do fine but like i mention before im 3 weeks back as August 15th usually im eating my first ripe figs, i have  a few turning but not fast like usual cause of cold.
Someone send Eastern Will County Illinois some warm weather please and quick! Its to early to be moving these plants.

Well, I think it never happened like this before but temperatures dropping here to 41F in late August! Our night lows will be between 41F to 45F for the next few days. I hope it does not stop the ripening process or does something else to the fruit otherwise I will call it 'breba only year'.
Temperatures will get back to normal seasonal temperatures after 4 days from now (unless forecast changes.
I will take my very small plants inside the garage. The other ones are stuck in the ground with half buried pots.

Low 90s and muggy (75% humidity). In south Florida today. I had to literally dump buckets of water on some new plants to keep them from wilting. They were only in the sun for 2 hours and wilted like crazy. I will send you all the warm weather you want in exchange for a sals cutting. Ha just kidding.

eb I'm in Port St Lucie and know what you mean. I'm getting ready to start my veggie garden in a few weeks. It is so hot and humid I don't really care to go out. I feel for you guys up north this has been some weird weather. I  wish you all the best maybe you"ll get an Indian summer in Sept

The temp. here is 46f this morning. All of my Fig trees are filled and I really don't believe I will see any ripen. Last year, we were enjoying them for weeks.
It has been a good year for finding new plants. When I visited my son in in Suffolk, VA. We went to pick up his car at a local repair mans home and there was a big Fig tree there with lots of root shoots & he happily allowed me to take two back to NWPA with me! The service fellow said that everyone around has never seen such enormous figs, but he does not know what the variety is...Can't wait for fruiting next year or the following.
Then I was dropping a disabled friend off to visit his brothers near Pittsburgh...and what do I see next to the porch? Fig shoots sticking out of the ground. They thought that it was a MAPLE? and had been mowing it over, What A Survivor that plant is! They told me an older Italian man had lived there previously & I asked if I might take it. They didn't mind, so now I have another UN Known Fig? Both have lots of roots and shoots and I'm uncertain of how to prune them? I would rather have a main stem than 20 shoots coming out of the pot.

Ottawan it was 45 last night here and glad i brought the little ones in there on the blacktop driveway now and will go in again tonguht with same tempos forcast along with a few going in shed. Its supposed  be 70s rest of week and that great as i should get a couple ripe ones in about a week and after tonight passes lows in 50s so all but 2 cuos will stay outdoors, hope your are doing well.

I get a kick out of folks just starting there veggie garden   ; )
Us folks up north do ok we are used to it i just fuss a lot the older i get as im tired of it all unlike when young and seeing it snow with excitement, i still like that first snow and ones on Christmas eve are nice but thats it.

Giants good luck with your veggie garden i passed this year as i could never get into it with all the rain to till it , i could have started a fall crop but figured i give the dirt a rest this season.
Im going to get some  figs next month thats for sure and will post some pictures when the time comes.

Next season thou bada biing cause the smaller ones that are producing now but wont ripen i really look forward to next season with much excitement, the misses last night to a step back when we were in yard as she is not used to seeing a fig tree covered with a old bed sheet and it startled her i just laughed, my dogs also thought it strange as well the 2 little ones were barking to beat the band at it and the large one just ignored it.

Martin as i read all the posts it seems that the weather has affected the whole country. I'm supposedly in a frost free zone and got hit with at least 5 days which took out my veggies in Jan 09 now we are dealing with storms and heavy winds and rain. Humidity is terrible and for my potted figs with saucers I go out with my shop vac to get the water out. What we do for that FIGEN fig.

Oh and I'm going to try one of your famous recipes Ham and Squirrel in Wine with a Fig Glaze.
I'm thinking of using the crock pot to enhance the flavors
