Pruning

I know this may seem like a stupid question but once the main crop figs grow on young green branches and then when the green growth turns into wood for the next years Breba crop...do figs ever grow back on the same place where they sprouted from?

What I am asking is that a fig will come out twice in the same spot (main crop and next years breba), will it every come back again or do I have to keep on pruning to stimulate new growth hence new figs?

This is the one thing that I am not sure about.

Once you get 2 figs out of a node, main 1 year, breba the next (if it's a type that makes breba), that node may produce a branch but not another fig.  If a node doesn't produce a main fig it's first year it won't ever produce a main crop fig.  If it doesn't produce a breba the next year it won't ever produce a fig.  If that keeps up you'll probably trash the plant  :)    The fig will keep growing new branches and you prune to shape the plant as you want it.

masterful,
Breba are figs that form from embryonic figs that did not develop on last years branches, usually referred to as "last years wood". Usually only one fig develops at each leaf node, there are cultivars that may have multiple figs (twins) at several leaf nodes but its usually the exception.

Figs never grow back at old leaf nodes, but new branches do, and they will produce figs. That's why maintaining a pruning schedule and shape will provide a larger supply of figs, by pruning to produce (induce) new branches.

Thanks!!! You guys on this forum are totally awesome!!!!
