Pruning Caprifiga

Last year, Igor (greenfig) had asked for guidance on how to best prune a Caprifig tree.
Have responded that never felt the need to do it but was convinced that it should not be much different than the method used to prune San Pedro figs.

Found now a rather old document written by Ira Condit (circular 77 dated Oct/1933) from the  - California Agricultutal Extension Service - where he explains how in his view, it should be done.

A copy of that paragraph is attached as well as copy of the front page of that circular 77.

Thank you, Francisco! That was very kind of you to remember and post the information.

Accidentally , I decided to pinch a caprifig to better control the shape and slow down the growth and that is what a suggestion is too!
I also did air layer the top 2 feet of the tree to shorten it significantly. The fig production paused momentarily but since that was the top, I am seeing many figlets and will probably get more figs per area. I would like to keep my Capris potted to move to different locations when needed.

Thanks for sharing that Francisco! Good to know. I don't have any mature caprifig trees on my property yet; but when they mature I'll definitely be referring back to Condit's advice.

Thanks Francisco, very informative and helpful.
