Puget Sound Fig Test 2012 Round 1

It was a great day to attend annual Puget Sound fig test at Kiwibob's place, and it was good to meet forum members (dawgdrvr & Kiwibob) in person.  The fig we tested were Gillette, Desert King, Lattarula, Negronne, Violetta, Vashon Violet, and Beall.

Kiwibob's neighbor also made some homemade dry Deser King and Gillette.  Oh man, those are some sweet candies.  I have never had so much delicious figs, and I will probably never buy fresh fig from store again.  Thank you, Kiwibob.

Kinda bummed I missed it! I did yard work all day. Clearly you had more fun than I!

I will be there for part 2, next Saturday.

How was Negronne compared to the others?

Since I heard so many good thing about Negronne, I was so happy to see Negronne on the table.  However, it was not that ripe, so it was good, but not as good as I hope.

Kiwibob should have the voting result soon.

Sounds like a blast and a great idea to get together and taste several varieties side by side like that and compare. A couple of us on the east coast have also gotten together to taste figs, but we did it very informally just grabbed and ate.

Here are some good eats, dried Desert King and Gillette.

A good time was had by all at the taste test.   I just might drive back up there  for the second testing this Saturday.
My personal 2 favorites were Gillette and Beall. The dehydrated figs were tasty . like fruit leather only better.

Vashon Violet (Brunswick) was okay, but it was still better than the Mission and Sierra I bought from grocery store.

Cody,
It was great to meet you there.  I am thinking about going back this weekend, too.

Yea , I'm going to make the trip back up there this Saturday.

I was going to go this Saturday but I remembered today that I have a 3 day ultrasound conference I'll be stuck in Friday - Sunday. How utterly disappointing.

Hmm. Review fetal anomalies or eat fresh figs. Which one sounds better?
Damn.

These were Negronne, Violetta and Beall.  Cody and I both like Beall.  Violetta was really good, but there was only one to share by many peoples.

The Fig test was held at a forum members house off of Lake City Way and 15th Ave N.E. in Seattle. KiwiBob is having Round 2 tomorrow @ 3PM. I am picking up some Fresh Figs from the Olympia Farmers Market . I just spoke with Michael Dolan of Burntridge Nursery and he is picking a bushel of fresh figs for the PSFT
