puppies have good taste.

so i'm getting inside of my house painted. it's taking longer than i wanted to. the puppies are staying in the garage with me most of the day. so they are bored. out of all the fig trees in the garage, they picked my prized Black Madeira to chew on. they didn't go for the whole tree, just the buds... good thing my wife and the kids love them so much...

You can always say "...they ran away..."

Oh no not the Madeira of all the figs a dark one they pick ?
Smart pups.

Quick border them with white types so they cannot get to the dark ones on the inside
and let them chew till hearts content on the white ones.

found out that they chewed on Genovese Nero also. i'm waiting to see if the GN improves this yr.. good thing that was a sucker off to the side, and old stump i air layered last yr.

Time to put puppies in a playpen, or the figs.

Maybe this thread should have been titled " Puppies Taste Good "

Ooooohhhh !!!!

I can't even think about that let alone taste it if I had the opportunity . blech!

Once a young couple walked into an ethnic restaurant with their little pet dog.
Pets were not allowed inside, and so the couple asked the owner to somehow 'take-care' of it.

After having their meal; the young couple asked for their dog to be brought back.
What do mean? - asked the owner  ...

Gee Gorgi that wasn't offensive or racist at all....

ok, this thread is turning into rather interesting conversation.. so how many of you grow pets for food supply? never really thought about eating pets. i would rather grow plants for food. it's so uncivilized to "take care of" fido, or morris. but bambi on the other hand..

Here is one not-so-small/cute 'puppy' that no one would want anywhere near his/her figs.

Down here, wild boar has turned into a sport.  And yes, many hunt them for food.  Boar can smell the truffles buried in the ground and will rip up a few acres in one night!  Many farmers raise truffles for profit.  It's a lucrative business.   Farmers will pay hunters to get rid of the boar from their property to save their crop.  I've never eaten wild boar but they say its just pork on a much larger scale with less fat!  Folks just don't realize how much damage these animals can do to a farmer's crop in one night.  They are smart as heck and can slice a 200+ lb man with just one swipe of his tusk.  They are some dangerous animals.

The only time I knew someone to eat a pet was at my ex husband's uncle's BBQ.  He BBQ'd goat.  His kids wouldn't touch it.  Their pet!  I now know Goat is really tasty meat, and I think certain cultures appreciate dog.  JD and I had this discussion last night after watching Hardscrabble Life.  We watched those NC boys eat very little to survive in the woods.  HUGE power outage after a thunderstorm last night.  In the candle lit darkness, I asked JD if he'd go out and catch a gopher or two for dinner.  We laughed and settled for hot dogs AKA Ball Park Weiners and buns on that trusty propane BBQ.

Suzi

I love to grow a few chicken/hens (town-permitting); first for
some good fresh eggs and then meat. However I am afraid that
my wife & kids may become too attached to them (as pets).
Only in America!

not exactly only in america any more... all around the world, so call urban area is getting away from eating snout to tail. i will eat anything at least once. except my pets.

me neither.

I butcher my own primal cuts, grind my own beef and pork, make my own sausage, make stock from the bones etc.

We can have chickens in Fair Lawn. We have a law that limits the numbers of times a rooster can crow per hour.
I want a rooster and a few hens after I retire.

rich, you sound like strictly beef, pork, chicken guy. my younger son is like that. won't touch anything he can't identify. on the other hand, my older son is like me. he'll try anything at least once. he might never eat it again, but he has to try at least once...

Since I cook so well my wife is reluctant to go out to dinner.

Most Saturdays It's Sushi and a Move night. I do a lot with fish and clams too both raw and cooked.

Actually I'm an adventurous eater however I've tried so many things I know what I like now.

Kind of like chicken, but with a bite ;-)

I had read they had red meat as cows.
But never tried. My father was a Shepperd ... He might want to kill me if he knows I've tried a dog ... I'm not attempting that :)
In war times ... You eat what you find ...
But you can still spank the puppies for being that rude with the BM !
