Question

Do you use coco coir by it self or as a mix?

I read that some will use it with perlite and others who use straight coir. So you could test both and see what works best for you.

Bought 11 pounds block for 17 bucks. Pretty cheap. Could have just payed,a few dollers on smaller amount but best deal. So i will read and, explore that different combinations. Thanks von. Good work on your plants. And fungus gnats must have gotten into my vegetable garden last spring because the roits on my green beans seedlings would just be gone over night.

Where did you find the coir? A Home Depot type place or a true gardening store/nursery?

For people who live near Anaheim CA, this guy is selling 11 lb coir blocks for $6 each with local pick-up.

I bought mine at a hydroponic center. You can google a place near you. Mine came loose in a bag. 25 lbs +/- for $25.00. My plan was to experiment wit it. I will be rooting my local unknown cuttings directly in it.

100% coir
50 % coir 50 % Pro Mix HP
100% Pro Mix HP

We'll see what happens.

My other cuttings I will be rooting in sphagnum moss.

I got mine on Amazon.  You want to be sure whatever you get has been washed to remove excess salts.

It said its low salt. Do i rinse it too. ? But it did say low salt. Why does it have salt

If it says low salt it's probably been rinsed.  Coconut husks are often stored near the seashore but in the water until they are loaded to take to processing plants.  Those with green husks are processed in to coir using ocean water.

I read your post so when buying i thought i better check the salt issue. Thanks for the info. Salt wasnt on my radar at all
