after you take a cutting from the tree, do you have to seal the tree or the cutting? does dormant tree still leak sap? pete
Not necessary. It may leak sap for a little while, but the tree is designed to handle the situation.
I have cut some good size branches from my dormant trees and no sap - its not flowing.I then seal with pruning seal . Thats me.In season when sap is flowing and im out pruning i just use the same containers potting soil and dab some on the cut .For me the above works to my satisfaction.
Martin,All though pruning seal may work well but it contains petroleum.I use latex paint. If the sap is leaking too much then I put ashes from wood, ciggs or coal.Wood ashes would be the best. It will almost stop the leak right away.
Rafed indeed it does .Maybe i can get hair to grow on my head . Or maybe it will grow in between my toes .It already grows on the tops my of the toes . ; )
Martin, you must walk through a lot of ashes if thats the hair growing cure!
Martin or anybody to that matter,The next time you make a cut and the sapoozes out nonstop try putting some ashes over it and see for yourself.
i'll try ash. i have grill right next to the trees. pete
Wood ash can be very alkaline.....so maybe baking soda would work too. That is "if" alkalinity is what makes it stop. Personally, I don't worry about it. DanSemper Fi-csu
