Question about cuttings

These are some cuttings I started this spring.  They are kind of leggy and I wonder if I should prune the tops now or wait until they go dormant?

They look fine. You can head off the central leader to encourage scaffold branch development now if you want. Good luck!

I pinched mine at that size. They started branching like crazy

I can't swear to this, yet, but it seems to me that if you prune when dormant, often only the apical bud will break dormancy. If you let them break dormancy, and grow a little bit, and then prune, they will flush multiple buds. So, I would expect tat if you pruned it to the point at which you want branching (if it is still actively growing), that the same flushing of multiple buds would probably happen.

The moderator cant figure out how not to make a double post?   ; )

Need some light-colored glasses?

Yep. that is about the size of mine when I pinched the top bud also.

Thanks for the replies.

I think you need a bigger pot.    :)

Also, if you fertilize every week or with osmocote you may get more branches developing without pinching the top.  Pinching the top will give you more and either way fertilization helps.

Chapman it depends if you want tree form or bush shape plants.

In tree form you wait until they get to size you want then prune top.

In bush form wait until spring leaf out then prune to size and get multiple shoots to appear at point of prune and some dormant nodes to awaken on main as well .
