Question about Red Rimmed Leaves

This is a photo of my critter bitten tree.  It has come back full force, but the new leaves are rimmed with red.  As they mature, the red disappears.

I have many trees with FMV, and they don't have this feature.  This is a tree of which I lost the tag.  It's a common fig.  Thinking Verdino/Pasquall, but not sure.  Is the red rim on immature leaves a sign of a dark fig or something else?

I don't know the answer to the specific question but I will make up a theory after saying that I like the new leaves the way they look.
I can see faint reddish hue in the new leaves. So I will guess (until real answer comes along), the red pigments may be carried to the edges of the leaves by the moisture movements and disappears with further growth.

I don't think red tinted leaves mean a red/purple fruit. My Filacciano trees (green/yellow colored fruit) have red tinted leaves right after bud break, but it soon disappears. However, I think a stronger indicator of red/purple fruit is reddish leaf stems, but not always.

Thanks for sharing, good luck!

Not always. My Negronne does this and my Syrian which is amber.

You can probably see the 3' of chicken wire circling that tree.  Taking no chances on critter bites!  Plus, I hit it with that mix of tabasco and water every few days.  Whatever bit it hasn't come back.

So, the red rims mean nothing, and I will wait to see what kind of fig this actually is.  Hate losing the tags, but happens!

Hi Desertdance,
Did you get some milder morning temps ?
Here, redish young leaves is a sign of fresh morning temps. I do get some at Spring time, and no longer in Summer.
It could be water stress as well. I would try to give it a bit more water .

It's probably the hot sauce; )!

my greek figs are two months old and have big leaves and when a new leaf forms it stay redish for awhile till mature

Certain varieties are prone to that reddish tint on new leaves as they emerge.  I have especially noticed this on Hardy Chicago and other "Mt Etna" type figs.

It has been my understanding that any pink/red tint on the young
leaf and/or its stem signifies a dark-skin and/or red-pulp fig fruit.

@gorgi:  I had heard that also, and was wondering if it can help (when figs appear) so I can get this one Identified by the group.  I THINK it's Vernino, but not sure.  I lost a few tags when we moved here to this property.

@FrozenJoe:  My HC doesn't seem to show this feature.  Maybe the climate?

One other indication; is the 'red-eye' on half-mature fruits, it points more to a 'reddish-pulp' fig fruit when ripe.

I will be interested to see some (convincing) pictures of your young leaves and mature fruit  - maybe in the future.

I have the fruit pictures here, and I think I did post something to ask what is wrong with my leaves... let me search, perhaps the leaves wede posted on Facebook.
Edit: Did not find them. Will post something if I see them again And rememmbered.
