question for JD, Sue and Jon

JD, you posted about the 3 amigo Portuguese figs.  You said the branca was a green fig and abbebeira was a long black fig.  On the Encanto site it's reversed, BB black and abb green.  Which is which?  Thanks

Ed

Are you sure you did not write this post in a rush!!
ABEBEREIRA does look black in the F4F varietal pages.
Branca does not exist and Blancas are green/Yellowish or yellowish green.

Figo Preto (L) Figo Branca  (M), Abebereira (R)

Thanks to all.  I confused branca with berbera.  Any one have any berbera?

I have all 3 and think I boutht them as cuttings together on e-bay.  With those beautiful fig pics, all I can say is "Hurry up fig trees and make it to bearing age"  The young Preto of mine has big, ornamental, single lobe spear shaped leaves

Now that you mention it the preto has very attractive wide leaves and is a great rooter

Yes, Preto was the best rooter of the three. Many last season rooted, and then sort of went into hibernation for the rest of the season. However, this season they have all taken off like gang busters.

Ed,

Here is what Sue V has on her website:

Branca
Figo Branca  (aka Bêbera Branca)

Green fig from Madeira

I hope this reconciles any confusion. If not, Sue V will have to chime in.

Don't need to, Jon's picture says it all. ;-) Great pic by the way.
JD when will you be out this way again?

@ Ed. Just wanted you to see 'Bebera' and 'Branca' in the same sentence.

@ Sue V. I am here (there) now. Check your PM.

JD

JD, yes that is what got me.  When I read "Bebera Branca"  then read of a black fig called Bebera pointed out to me by the Celt I thought it was a black fig (sorry Georgie).  I will label it branca and lose the first part (bebera).

Thanks to all for the clarification.

Ed

Ed this is what the Bebera Branca looks like .

I have all three growing down here in La, all thanks to Sue. Thanks Sue, I can never thank her enough. I hope to taste at least one fig from each this year.
