Question For Southern Growers

I am seeing most of my figs starting to get fig embryos. Will these be next years breba's or do we have enough time for them to develope?

Isn't it like 100 days?  If so yes there is still time for zone 9.  By embryos do you mean bumps or tiny figs?

Bumps, am I calling them the wrong thing?

Danny,
They're just the bump you see before it grows into a fig. I was just wondering if anyone else had figs doing this right now. It seems a little late but we do stay warm through November most years. My trees have been acting really wierd this year but I guess it's to be expected. I had a sweater on in May and usually that stops in early March.

The strange weather in Texas has definitely had an effect on the figs.  I had canned 34 pints by mid July last year and this year, the same trees aren't even ripe yet.

If you get your plants into microclimates, i.e. a good south-facing patio with reflective surfaces and/or heat-sinking bases (cement) to absorb sunlight, you can extend your season considerably. Some of my figs have very small figs just starting here in coastal NC. I have no doubt most of them will ripen, as proper placement will extend my season to around November. I may have to tarp the trees a night or two in October, but the location does most of the work.

Tami, I will put mine in full sun on the concrete driveway until the frost knocks the
leaves off. I have several with new little figs that should ripen middle to late Oct.

Thank you for all the answers. Here's hoping for some ripe figs for Thanksgiving...haha

I have several showing "bumps" and a few the size of a small pea.  Jules is right, the weather here was weird and has delayed a lot of crops, especially fruiting trees.  I will move everything with signs of figs under lights and see if they complete the figs.  I was at a good Celeste tree yesterday and there was not a single fig ripe, matter of fact, the figs were all the size of a nickel, and this is a Legacy tree that is 60 yrs old, strange

I was kinda wondering the same, a I have little figlets just starting on my LSU purple, they go from BB size to large ball bearing size. And also my LSU tiger and LSU Thibadeaux have a few small figs on them. I'm hoping there is still enough summer so they can do what they have to do.
