Question for the Pro-mix BX users

I've been using FF Ocean Forest with great success. But it's costing me an arm and leg for only 1.5 cu.ft.
I can get the Pro-mix for $27 a bale. What are you guys paying? Do you mix anything with the pro-mix bx. http://www.pthorticulture.com/en/promix-bx-biofungicideplusmycorrhizae-growing-medium/
This is the one with the BIOFUNGICIDEā„¢+MYCORRHIZAE.

I pay between $25-28 depending on quantity I buy. I mix it with pine bark fines fron agway.

I pay $30+ (Canadian) in our area per bale. I add pine bark fine or coarse and a handful of dolomite for each 5 to 7 gallons of mixture.

I got lucky.....I mean real lucky! I found a large pallet at Big Lots listed for $25 bucks each. And on that day all gardening products were 70% off. So I got the whole pallet. Each bale was $7.50. Now that's a DEAL!!!! I bought all 10.

I've been using the FF Ocean Forest also.... sooo pricey  , but the trees like it !

Dennis, What luck! Did you mix anything with your pro-mix?

I mix Course perlite in about 2 promix to 1 perlite in cup stage  then 3 to 1 when potting up. I know I am basically mixing their HP mix, but I can buy the perlite in like a 6? cubic foot bag for around $13  and  results in a considerable savings. I would mix in extra perlite even if I purchased the HP.  I need to call some Big Lots Dennis got a great deal if those were the 3.8 cf bale I pay $29 I think.

Potting up beyond the 1-3 gal I normally use Nature's Helper which I get in bulk for $32 a cubic yard. I think the formula varies a little in what area you are located, but here in the south It is a large percentage partially composed pine bark fines and some compost. Find a landscape supply that moves a lot as if it sets around for months it is composted further then I like.

Art, as much as I love my figs, I simply cannot afford the soiless soil you all rave about it.  I got a little and started my own weird mixes with whatever I can put my hands on, since my large tree grows without much, I gave it a try. my garden, compost, bunny and chicken poo, pine needles, wood chips semi decomposing, sand, whatever.. even some chunks of styrofoam and corks... planted several of my unknowns and they are all fine.  My black madeira grafted onto my own tree root is out there in the shade and doing well.  I have a nice little Conadria in this mix... it is doing very well. Should have fruits next year.

I also reuse soil that others died in it.. I use the dead (by gnats) as decoys, I stick the semi eaten ones around the new one. seems like they continue eating the dead one and leave the new one alone.

I think people grow figs long before people started blasting the mountains for perlite and all the other modernized soils. Just my thoughts.
