Question on a sucker and the best month to plant it

Hi all Fig lovers.
Someone is giving me a newly growth from the bottom of his tree( it has roots),
what is the best season to plant it in the ground?
Some tell me in the fall and some tell me in spring, which of these two seasons have greater success?

Thank you

George

Hi George,
In our colder climates with possible heavy freeze temperatures definitely in the spring, so the roots can spread out deep into the new soil before next winter. The roots will be able to supply the tree with water although the ground might be frozen.

George: I agree with Christian. Plant it in a pot first and place it in a protected area. It will have a lot of roots by the spring 2014, then plant it in the ground in the early spring. Thanks for sharing.

Best,
Tam
