Figs4 fun is a great please for learning everything there is too know about figs.. I am still new to collecting but always check the post as the end of the day for insight into whats going on with Figs.. question I have is on an old tree that has been in the family for many, many years.. by looking at the leaf I am thinking that this is a Vasilika Sika, do you think I am on the right track? would it possible to be anything else? would I need to post a picture of the fig to confirm? as usually everyone's insight and information is greatly appreciated. This should help. I see now there are three kinds.

Could also be Stella or even Brunswick.  Seeing the fruit would help a lot to distinguish between the possibilities.

Also keep in mind you want to look for the most consistent leaf shape on the tree. If a tree has been pruned earlier in the year sometimes the new leaves will be a totally different shape. Just fyi.

thank you everyone, i am taking notes on everything and starting a detail sheet for my figs and will take everyones information. for now i don't have any photos of the fig as i only recently started getting into documenting things. once i get some figs will post with a quarter and try and get close to identifying

My understanding is (and I am not an expert by no means!) that there are 2 types of known V. Sika. One with elongated leaves, and one without. I was under the impression one was sourced to Herman, and the other one to Bellclare Nursery. Am I wrong???

Jerry, that sounds right.  The Belleclare VS is most likely Dalmatie from what I've read.

Thanks someone posted earlier that there were three (3) Vasilika Mavra (Black kind of fig) Vasilika Aspra (White kind of fig) Vasilika Melissi (honey like skin color) which was news to me, again constantly learning which is what I love about this site.. also did not know that " Genuine Vasilika do not have elongated finger " which I always thought for sure they did.. will still continue to do more research on this and again thanks for everyone's useful information.

again the telling tale will be photos of the fig which I hope we will have in the coming months..

I think this is the correct info. Some one correct me if I'm wrong:
The three Vasilikas that were listed were the Vasilikas grown in Greece. Belleclare's Vasilika Sika sold here with the long, finger like leaves has been identified as Dalmatie and possibly even White Greek and Stella.

Herman2 introduced a strain of Vasilika Sika to the US that is refereed to as Herman's VS or Green Greek and is probably the same as the Greek Vasilika Aspra. Herman said that Belleclare's VS was an excellent fig, but his VS tasted slightly better. It was identical to a Vasilika Syka from a Greek Gardener in Mount Laurel New Jersey.

Trees of Joy sells a Marva Vasilika Sika that is a black Greek fig that comes from came from island of Chios, Greece, also with an excellent flavor.  
 
As Enigma posted, many pixils have been shed on this forum discussing the issue and a quick search will keep you busy and confused for hours. 

Mara, just as a clarification, what I am recalling is that Herman2 got his fig (which he refers to as Vasilika Sika/Syka) from a Greek Gardener in NJ.  I think that is what you meant to write, correct?  So it is probably more accurate to say that the Greek gardener introduced this fig to the US but Herman2 facilitated its fame.  Maybe Herman2 can chime in with more information.

Steve, I think that’s right. Here Herman2 gives the source of his Vasilika Syka:

“It is absolutely Identical to Vasilika Syka,I have from Greek Gardener in Mount Laurel New Jersey.”
