Quick Question about Pruning

I think I already know the answer to this but I just want to get a more experienced take on it.

I have a 1 gal White Kadota that I bought around the middle of the season last year.  It's about 3 ft tall, thickness a little bigger than a #2 pencil and it didn't put on much side growth to speak of.  I'm pretty much limited to having my figs in pots, and would like 3-4 main stems closer to the soil line for a short/fat plant.  I'm thinking I should just cut it off closer to the soil before it wakes up. Or should I wait and see what it does this season?  I guess my fear is that I prune it back and somehow kill it outright...

Cut it at about 16" for a tree shape or 6" for a bush. There are some good threads on this on F4F and ourfigs forums.

Ahhhh, now that's what I was looking for.

Thanks fellas...

You are welcome. Not sure if AscPete is active on this forum anymore, but he is really knowledgeable and experienced and helped me out on the other one. Information is a hot commodity ;)

Yeah I hear ya.

Well last night I really took the pruners to a few trees.  Chopped my RDB & White Kadota down to a 6 inch main trunk so we shall see.  The way I've seen figs grow I really shouldn't be worried, I'm sure this will work out well in the long run.
