It just didn't seem like all that much rain. There wasn't any standing water in the bottom of the kiddy pools, even right after the rain. Just a few weeks ago we were getting 6to 8 inches of standing water on a regular basis, but that was before they started to ripen.
With the hot dry weather They looked droopy during the day, but that seemed to be from the sun, even heavy watering didn't help. So, I adjusted my watering to keep them just above wilt. And the fruit was really sweet and good. (HC, MBVS, and the VdB were just starting to come in)
We had been getting 8 to 12 figs a day, but then, there was a critter attack right after the rain, so I missed getting any for a couple of days. And, it stayed cloudy and cooler. I got some splitting and souring, and the taste is really washed out. It's a dramatic difference.
It's convinced me that a greenhouse is the only way to go for potted figs. You've got to control the water.
I have a Celeste on a SIP. That heavy rain apparently washed the nitrogen out of it. It yellowed out and dropped it's leaves. I gave it a thick top dressing of worm castings right after it yellowed, and I've been top watering through that ever since. It's bouncing back, but the critters got all the figs it didn't drop.
Grump, grump, grump. I still seem to be on the wrong side of the learning curve, but, the lessons are coming hard and fast.
