--- Raintree order

Z010 $10 off $60
Got it on the first try

Igor….. Thanks for posting your score at Raintree Nursery.   Those are nice looking trees…!

I called Raintree today, hoping to order one myself.   Not …!   Lucky you, looks you got the last of their Sultanes.  I’ve sort of had Sultane on my radar screen for a while now and it will surely go on my wish list for winter cuttings.

Jack,
I am sorry to hear that, I didn't mean to get the last one!..
I was browsing the net jumping from a nursery to a nursery and when I got to the Raintree it looked like a jackpot so I ordered right away :)
I think you still can order from them for the Spring shipping, it might be still better than to worry about the cuttings.

Igor, I found that.  You said you had a coupon for $10 shipping.  I could not find one for that which is what some others were talking about since shipping was expensive for them.

Igor,
Hummm, didn’t even ask about next spring shipping.   Hey, I'm in no big hurry, next spring is fine by me.  Like I said, Sultane has long been on the radar screen so, it can stay there little longer.  Got enough new figs to babysit through the winter, anyway!

Good luck getting a little growth before the cold sets in on SoCal….

Question:  At that size/condition, will you grow through winter or let it rest through brief dormancy?

Jack,
I think the Raintree has separate sections for a Spring and a Fall.
Last year my VdB shed the leaves on its own and was dormant for a few months, it was in a pot outside.
I will let the young figs to take their natural course and sleep through the winter. I believe the roots will still grow though, only the top will be dormant.

Igor,
Good news…!   You didn’t get the last Sultane after all.     I did………… :-)

Surprise surprise…. I got an email from Raintree this afternoon and after further investigation they found one more.  They were puzzled; because inventory control indicated they had one more yesterday.

I did not hesitate to call immediately and they guaranteed it was no “Charlie Brown” left over scraggly tree but, a very nice specimen.   Should be boxed up and shipped FedEx within the week, which is fine by me.   Charge… $18.50 for the tree, tax and shipping $14.95.  Total $33.45.     Great customer service and communication!   I’m happy and will purchase again from them.   Especially, if indeed I receive a nice tree!

BTW… ..  Think I will do same as you and let junior figs enjoy their dormancy rest.  I want to re-pot many anyway, in better draining mix, as they wake up in spring.

Thanks again…….. best of fig karma your way

Sounds Great Jack......Send me some cuttings of Sultane upon arrival....LOL    Remember to keep your collection under 100 varities......LOL

Armando…..  cuttings on arrival.....?

Hummmm.....!  Don’t think doable, unless they send me a 5 + gallon tree.  But, I will put you number 1 on the list for 2015 cuttings, assuming my Sultane thrives.  And, I do likewise....... :-)

100 varieties….?   OMG, I don’t want to start a botanical garden, just some good eating figs.    Lots of them too……!

Jack, congratulations!
We can compare the figs in a year :)
We eat the figs and send Armando a cutting :D

Igor...I would think you don't eat figs...because you are saving the seeds...LOL    I am going to look for a 2015 Calendar and Write Jack's Sultane.....

There you go - stay on the darkside !

I See how you guys are.......LOL

Crap! It looks like my chance at a Sultane blew by me again!

Very nice specimens, I'm jealous! And great tip about looking for coupon codes prior to checkout. I'm in the habit of doing that anyways but I guess lots of folks don't think about it.

Yes Martin, I do like the black/red figs most.
But I also like (the mix) with green/red figs too.

My sultane has heavey fmv how's yours look? The fruit on mine had spots on them,
Only received mine about 1-2 months ago.

My Sultane from RT also had fmv but grew normal in container.
Ripe figs looked wonderful viewing exterior and interior
but
after 2 full seasons of eating them they did not give palate the wow factor that i have come to expect from a keeper
fig plant in our yard.

Tree was discarded but in doing so a sucker was pulled and saved in 4 inch pot if it lives thru dormancy it may get 1 more chance.
Have pictures of plant and its lovely fruit.

Edit:
Gorgi types -Yes Martin, I do like the black/red figs most.
But I also like (the mix) with green/red figs too.

George dont take wrong way but i also enjoy mix of green fruit in yard .
Then they ripen and no longer green !   ; )

I checked my figs today and it seems I may try the Sultane and Petite Negri soon!
Woo-hoo!  They are growing nicely. Although, the Petite Negri didn't care to go dormant.

That looks pretty, Thanks Igor for getting us updated. The weather is starting to be nice again. Hopefully this will put me ahead of the game. Really would like to try all the new varieties I picked up. Especially waiting for my Jarupa...LOL

@Bosco:

Jack, referring to posts #23 & #32, I think that I had bought the
very LAST (2013) Sultane from RT and you [very possibly?] re-bought it (10/15/2013)!

I bought and paid for mine on 10/14/2013. It was advertised to ship spring 2014.
In the original PO, I had added a note that they can ship fall 2013 - they did not.

Recently (3/28/2014), I just received a very disappointing email from RT:

"Dear G... ,
We regret to inform you we are not carrying the Sultane Fig tree for the 2014 season.
We have removed the unavailable items from your order and refunded your credit card $xx.xx.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused."

Arrrrr... for RT?!?!

Well that sucks!

Another bizarre thing here.
What's up with post #43, 44 dates?
My computer shows both posting dates as "

Couple of Sultane figs picked at different stages of ripeness course the ripe one brought more taste.
Not sure if the sucker pulled and replanted is alive or not from dormancy.

Plant came with mild case of FMV which i expected then as it grew looked worse and worse
as a note, gets one more chance if sucker makes it from dormancy.

If it taste average or similar to other figs in yard it gets discarded no need for average
or similar tasting figs as downsizing occurs to keep only palate favorites.

On a bright side from RT; I just received my Pastillere
and Olympian (ordered separately on 11/3/2013) figs.
They did combine the shipping costs (less than for 2 orders).
Plants arrived with the buds just beginning to swell.

Gorgi, the dates up above are okay.  When prior posts are from the same year the forum just shows the month and the day.  It just looks a little odd because the prior posts show the year of 13 and these other posts were made on the 13th of month.

I ordered Olympian from Burnt Ridge maybe 6-8 weeks ago and received it about 10 days later and it is growing in my greenhouse until weather warms up a little more.
