RdB ready for the Fall?

I found some leaves have many black spots. Is it getting sick or ready for the Fall?

Looks like your figs need some nitrogen and iron. Lives are so pale.

I don't know about the black spots, but your Ronde de Bordeaux looks as if it could use a little fertilizer. Probably not advisable at this late in the year if you live where it gets cold in winter.

I bought it from drivewayfarmer. Should I change this soil or wait for next spring to change soil?

It looks like a healthy plant, it just needs some minerals (fertilizer). You don't need to change the soil. If you live where it's cold in winter, let it naturally go into dormancy, then next spring when it's starting to grow again, give it a wee bit of fertilizer. Or if it's in a small pot, move it up into a larger one.

People with greater fig knowledge might have different suggestions. :)

OK. Thanks.

You don't say what zone you are in, but my RDB came from Drivewayfarmer too, and it's very green.  The difference may be it's getting colder where you are.  Days here are 100+ degrees, and nights in the 80's.  Can't be the soil.  We have the same soil.  Came from the same guy!

I will up-pot in to a 2 gal pot and when you do mix some ironite and lime to a soil, you can add some fertilizer with low or no nitrogen like 0-20-10. In spring add fertilizer with high nitrogen like 20-20-20 and you will be in good shape.

Looks fine to me course im here near Chicago and some but not all are doing the same including my Ronde and its because they know whats coming and not any deficiency.

If you go to the control panel in upper right corner of forum you can add your
area/zone to your signature that is if you do not mind others knowing, but some may want there privacy.  ; )

Done. :)

Zone: 6B

Eden, one should dose lime and ironic at different times or make sure the ironite being used has no Al in the mix. Fe is a major force in soil mineralogy towards to ion exchange principles. In addition the reason to check for Al is that Ca from the lime will bind with Al until they have balanced each other out. This will then cause the pH to change depending if you have more Ca or Al.

This is to much science for me. I do as a said and I have no problems and if I do I include iron and lime together and my results are excellent.

If you use ironite you may want to use half the recommended strength.  I used it full strength and got some fertilizer burn.

Thanks. Im going to homedepot to buy Ironite. :)

Save your money. I'm in 6a and mine is also from driveway farmer. The cold weather is coming and they are prepping.

Figs don`t know when winter is coming an less temp drop to mid to law 30 F.
In tropical places they stay green all year around. Just look around and compare your tree to other fog trees and you will see difference.

To Slingha, can you picture your RdB here? Let's compare it.

Here is 2 pic RdB and Battaglia but all of them look like this.

Interesting. Im worry about my one. :(

Regardless, in 6B it's too late to push with Fertilizer. Let them go dormant and deal with better nutrition in the spring.

Don`t worry just give them some food and they will be fine.

You can feed them now but avoid Nitrogen (N), nitrogen will push new growth which will have no enough time to harden before winter.

Fig4me, By chance did you up pot this when you received. Or is it in same size container. I'm hoping you put in bigger pot. And if you did, did you add anything at that time. What soiless mix did you use. Helps to know what you have done to help make right decisions. If you bought this tree from Kerry, It is very good stock and he can grow great fig trees. I would have asked him how to handle this tree when you got it. I'm sure he would have been more than happy to tell you the correct steps to take.

To Eden, Mine has red stems. Yours seems not have red stems. Different kind of fig trees?

My are from Kerry to so they should be the same. Kerry is is a good guy i will be buying from him again and again.
