I am going to up-pot two of my cuttings from 16 oz plastic cups to 1 gal pots, To avoid over watered to kill the cuttings, please adv if the 80% organic potting mix + 20% perlite in 1 gal pot needed to be watered thoroughly before I move them to the new pots or not. Your comments by return will be much appreciated.  Thanks...............

Define "organic potting mix". I always prefer a soil-less mix. Less chance of bugs like fungus gnats or diseases. (Pro Mix HP)

I'm going to uppot a cutting tonight (Panache).  I plan to just put it in more Pro Mix HP (my original potting mix in the cup).

I get my promix wet when planting cuttings, but when up-potting I have always used dry 5-1-1 and then watered it after.  I'm thinking for the promix, since it really likes to float, I may dampen it first.

HI ADelmanto & adipose     : You mean I should not use organic potting mix right ? I have checked with Walmart, Home Depot and Rona here in Vancouver, B.C. Canada but they do not have Pro-Mix HP as recommended perhaps it is too early for them . I have found Pro-Mix All Purposes Potting Mix available in one local store as per images attached. Can I use either one to replace with organic potting mix or not.

I need to repot also. Do you know where I can find Pro-Mix HP in Connecticut?

Pro-mix HP is the one I use.  I have found that some of these things are very regional.  I couldn't find a bunch of different mixes here in California, but Pro-mix HP is available at Home Depot out here:

This makes a good amount of potting soil.

I checked pro-mix's site and got the ingredients for HP vs. all purpose.  They are similar but HP seems to hold water longer, and there is fertilizer in the all purpose. Somewhere on here someone listed the ratios of all the common mixes.

HP:
    Canadian sphagnum peat moss (65-75%)
    Perlite
    Limestone
    Wetting agent
    MYCORRHIZAE™ PREMIER TECH (Glomus intraradices)

All purpose:
    Canadian sphagnum peat moss
    Peat humus
    Perlite
    Limestone
    Controlled release fertilizer
    MycoActive™ Organic Growth Enhancer (Mycorrhizae)

Since I can not get Pro - Mix HP here in Vancouver, B. C. it looks like I have to take a chance to use All Purpose for now.

The HP stands for High Porosity. If you cannot find HP then just add a little more perlite to whatever quality mix you can find.
