Really Small Fig Or Really Big Blueberry?

The answer is BOTH!

It's actually my first Cajun Gold breba.  I picked it when the skin was starting to shrivel.  It tasted good, but probably gets much better with a larger fruit and more mature tree:

Just an update on the Cajun Gold...There was a second breba fig that started to swell over the last week, or so.  I kept waiting for it to get "perfectly" ripe and, when I first checked it this morning, I saw it was gone and "freaked out" a little...then noticed it had fallen to the ground.  It was nice and soft, a golden yellow color, and had just started to get some brown spots due to being on the ground.  I washed it off, stuck it in the fridge for a few hours, and ate it this afternoon.

This one was awesome!  Much better than the first, which as I noted, was somewhat small so I suspect never fully developed, even though it was ripe.  This second one was a sweet honey-tasting fig with a slightly nutty after-taste.  Much better than the Texas Everbearing for a sweet fig!

Looks great:)

Figaro, glad your second fig was much improved.

Thanks for the feedback Figero. Yours is the first report from the many cuttings and trees I've given away. You are ahead of me by a bit as my breba are still a few weeks away. I have a large main crop working this year and hope the rain hold off long enough to get in a decent crop.
Thanks again,

Gina,

Definitely both!   Figaro was kind enough to send me cuttings of the CG a few weeks back and they are currently potted up.

Nice looking fig.

Gene,
Mine may have gone kaput. I'll let you know in a week or two for sure.

Gene, thanks for the cuttings!  It was a great recommendation considering I was looking to add a good sweet fig.  I've heard the term "honey figs" before, but have never had a fig that tasted as much like honey as the CG!

I'm not going to get much of a main crop this year, since in March I chopped the main trunk pretty low to work on building a good shape (and get Wills his cuttings!) but left a side shoot, which is where the brebas came from.  I'll likely air layer that side shoot at the end of this season.

Here's a pic of the CG from about 3 weeks ago.  The two figs you see on the side shoot are the two brebas I've harvested:

I have weeded that planter since the pic was taken! :D

Will, that's great!  I'm glad to hear you were able to get them rooted!  Gene had mentioned they were difficult to root, and mine was definitely a slow starter, but well worth the wait! :P

Thanks, Rafed!  As I just wrote in my previous post, I know they can be difficult to root.  And, when I mentioned mine being a slow starter, in the early stages, I wasn't sure it was going to make it either.  If you already have some roots and the plant is looking stressed, you may want to try a light dose of SuperThrive which I don't use regularly, but it's good for treating/preventing stress.

Thanks for the added picture figero. I let my tree grow a little taller before I chopped off it head and it make a very nice open tree.

Rafed, let me know if it died or not as I have another small one I can send you.
