Received USDA shipment today

My son says I'm acting like its Christmas. To me it is. This shipment is from 15 months ago. Received 1 VdB, 1 Col de Dame, 1 Black Madeira, 3 Early Violet, and 1 Tena.

See my posts on propagating cuttings in perlite in a humidity chamber and a heat mat...

You have some nice cuttings there...good luck in the rooting process.

Congratulations Swizzle. I also received mine today, 10 of 12 varieties that I requested.
I just got done cleaning and waxing them. I reek of bleach!
Merry Christmas!

My congrats ... but was it really USDA?!?!
I have heard/read stories about USDA actually confiscating fig twigs...

Did you mean USPS, UPS (or maybe UCDavis)?

Gorgi, UC Davis is part of the USDA plant collection sites that they operate around the country. So when you see a post that says they received their cuttings, if they are figs they came from UC Davis, if they are prunus variety of trees they are from Corvalis Oregon. I do know they operate about twenty sites within the US that contain almost all varieties of beneficial plants.

CdDB is amazing fig. i'm still waiting to see if BM is also that great. they sent me one of each 2 yrs ago, they are all growing great.

Good luck with your scionwood.

Ooops! For a moment, I had forgotten about the good side of USDA.

Good score swizzle

When will my time come? I've emailed and left messages but nothing.

Good luck, swizzle.  I hope they do well for you!

If you order material other than Ficus I think that sometimes delays the order, maybe everything is not ready at the same time. I know every year I have ordered and this is like year 4? for me. It seems like I am in that last round shipped. I normally have a couple Persimmon, Pomegranate, Mulberry in my order. This might not be fact. but it's how I rationalize to myself always being last.

I got my cuttings a month ago already.  Without thinking I ordered a second set later in the year.  It'll be interesting to see if they send me that one.  This will be my third attempt to get the Col de Dame cutting to root.

George, They confiscate as many cuttings as they need to fill orders for new cuttings. ;-)) It is called recycling.

Hurray USDA!

My phone beeped last night after i went to bed.  I thought to myself.. "that sounds important, i'd better check".  Sure enough, it was a UPS notice that a shipping label was created by the USDA.  2nd day air, ouch!  I should have specified ground.  Anyway, don't know what I'm getting.  had only ordered 4.  Panache, Black Madera, Ischia Black and Ischia White.

I just got a UPS 2nd Air delivery notice also. Funny thing is I had to do some detective work to figure it out. From USDA,ARS,NCGR. I had to Google it! I filled out a request forever ago, and I didn't fill out anything for shipping when I did the order. So I thought it wouldn't go thru, I haven't recieved any sort of confirmation or anything.

Since it's already April I had given up on receiving anything from them figuring my order had been misplaced or they didn't have any of the varieties I ordered. And then out of the blue two days ago I got an email from UPS notice saying I've got a shipment on it's way. To be honest it's been so long I don't even recall exactly what I ordered.

Fast forward to today I get a notice from UPS saying my address was incorrect and my package was un-deliverable, after a brief call with customer service I had the package re-routed to one of their locations which is about a half hour from me. Unfortunately they want me to come in between 9-10pm tonight to pick it up. Some how I didn't imagine my Friday night would entail driving around town chasing after cuttings... Ahhh the crazy things I find myself doing for figs these days.

I just received my notification today, too! *WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!*

They sent me a UPS 2-day air notification by email, even though I had provided my FedEx#.  I guess they either didn't see it or decided it was easier for them to deal with UPS than FedEx, so I'll ask about donating some money to them to at least cover the shipping costs.  Although, my taxes should more than cover it!!! :)

Sounds like Santa is paying many a visit.

John and Calvin, when did you guys place your orders? I am about to give up hope.

It was mentioned that ordering multiple types of plants delays the orders (#14).  I have found this to be true for me, as well.  This year is no different... I still have not been notified. There is no need to panic, yet.

I'm still waiting for mine also and I'm just 40 minutes away.  But they are jammed with a crazy log of orders so I'm just trying to be patient.  I stuck some more cuttings I had in the refrigerator the other day so that helps.  Could go out and do some weeding, I suppose.

I don't think their is any logical order they are filling requests. Jules and I ordered on the same day, just a few for each of us. She got hers a couple of weeks ago. Mine is just now being shipped.
