Red Lebanese from Tripoli

Hello and good day. I received these cuttings from a gentleman in PA., who said the tree was grown from a tree in Tripoli. It is his most cold hearty tree in 6a, and has survived unprotected after two years growth. A pretty and sweet medium to large bright red fig. Is anyone familiar with this fig? Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike, nice to see you posting.

Hi Mario, It's me Mike from Wallingford. Happy New Year and I'll see you soon, thanks again.

I don't know but I want some :)

hi Mike sounds interesting

do you have any pics of this tree , pics of leaves and fruit ?

also Any info how the fig arrived here from Tripoli

Is it Red Lebanese (Bekaa)' or 'Lebanese Red '? I think the order of the words matter, the first is Marius' and the latter is Bass' version from Tripoli. Both look like amazing figs! With any luck I'll get to taste both of them next year. Here are a couple threads I found when I was looking into it myself, but there's a lot of information on both varieties here if you use the search function at the top. Others have asked the same question. :)

Thanks, I didn't know the Bass version was from Tripoli. I will check further from the source. He is an older gentleman and did not confirm his source, just provided culture info. There seemed to be a alight language thing. They are beautiful, fresh cuttings that were showing root nubs in water after 3 days. It should not be long for this one to start and develop a couple leaves.

Many Thanks, Mike.

I may have been had on this one. I think the postmark is Moscow PA., and through the forum I see this is a bad sign. I also have purchased a couple from peony77, which may explain why they seemed old and were the only ones with a cutting issue. Gonna have to check these when I get home. Any heads up if these are now a waste of time space and $$$? Rest assured if they are I will pursue refunds and fraudulent complaints through ebay and paypal. They are also responsible for this problem.

Thanks, Mike

They look fairly distinct from one another (figs and leaves) so assuming you have one of those two you should be able to tell what you when it leaves and fruits out. There's a thread somewhere with the leaves side-by-side for comparison. One had little points between the lobes, forget which. Do a search and you'll see that thread.
