Redneck organza bags

I have a big problem with yellowjackets. They have already eaten at least 2 dozen Hardy Chicago figs, a dozen Black Triana and countless unknown green figs. They started on a RDB but I flung them off and ate it anyway. I have a Malta Black and a RDB that I would like to ripen until it starts to shrivel a bit so I had to cover them. Since I don't have any organza bags I used some redneck ingenuity. I had two bags that garlic comes in and used them. I gotta invest in some organza bags for next year.

Tony, Good idea. I know the bees have been killing you.
I just said the same thing to my wife about getting some organza bags for next year.

I love the title of the thread. :)

Hey Redneck ingenuity is great!  what ever works .

I placed an order for a pack of 100 just a couple days ago.  I'll be ready next year.

I saw grapes a little north of me this year that were all wrapped in something like cheesecloth (it was some commercial product). I was told it started as protection from birds, but was now used for protection from wasps which would otherwise eat ALL the grapes in the vineyard down to the stems.

Nothing against rednecks and nothing against organza, but I still say those two words just don't fit together.  Not an oxymoron exactly, but... well, a little like something out of an old Woody Allen movie.

What a great idea! I didn't have many figs this year to worry about, but they worked over my peaches.  These would work great there also!  Thank for sharing a great idea.

My redneck organza bag failed to do it's job. I went to check on a fig this morning and got a disappointing surprise. The bag was still on the tree but no fig inside. Something ripped a slit in it and took the fig out. There was no sign of a fig even being in there. What a bummer. Another one I had covered was still in there but you could see that it was being tampered with so I beat the critter to it and picked the fig. My suspect was a squirrel that was scampering away when I was walking up to the tree.

Next step is setup up barbed wire, an electric fence and land mines surrounding the perimeter and a sophisticated laser system that sounds alarms!
OR
Keep my fingers crossed and hope I get a few figs for myself. Lol

 Caddy Shack :-)

Great idea...that reminds me...I have some what is called "Drain Sleeve" or "Drain Pipe Sock" , which is used over corrugated black plastic drainage pipes, to keep the dirt out. That might work good too (but probably too fine a mesh for figs that need the wasp), and costs something like $25 for 100 feet.
