Relative cold damage

After 2 significant drops in temperature this winter, I thought I would record the relative amount of damage to inground, unprotected figs. The inground figs are all about the same age, 4-6 years. All roots were protected by a 3 inch leaf mulch. The two lows were 10 F and 13 F both only for a matter of hours overnight. Damage seems to be limited to last year's new growth.

Hardy Chicago No damage.
Celeste Last year's new growth (8-15 inches) damaged
Sal's EL Last years new growth (3-8 inches) damaged
Hunt Last year's new growth (8-18 inches) damaged
Alma Last year's new growth (3-5 inches) damaged

Col de Dame inground, partially protected with tarp and lights on cold nights--new growth 3-10 inches damaged)

Hi Scott_ga,
Could you describe a bit more each tree : How many terminal buds /stems . How many had die back ?

I'm asking because I have some fig trees behaving funny or crazy - depends of the view angle I guess :
Dalmatie : 1 bud dried out - the higher one ... In October !!! I had no freeze until end November
Strain ufti : I removed the protections last week, and on one tree I lost two branches - they look dry , but this tree has some 20 terminal buds, and all the other buds/branches look healthy/solid red.
So I think that those buds/branches were just abandoned by the trees regardless of the cold - Just my though .

I see that you have a cdd in ground in zone7. Has it already fruited for you ?

We have had low of 0 F a couple of time. So far looks like extensive damage to hardy Chicago. Brown turkey, and Celeste in ground 3 yrs. 2 yr old MBVS has minimal damage. Only protection used was a layer of mulch.

My 4th year unprotected unknown-Carini tree has all dead tips, about 3" from the tip.  Zero degree temps with harsh winds really hurt the figs this winter.

A little more description for these trees...

Celeste damage 15-20 branches damaged, all with terminal buds--all first year growth damaged.
Sal's EL 10-15  branches damaged--all first year growth
Hunt 15-20 branches all first year growth
Alma 8-10 branches--all first year growth.
Hardy Chicago  2 trees in ground, neither with any damage.

Yes, my CDD has already fruited. Sounds like MB VS would be a good bet for this zone.

Seriously, in August for me - so that I'm sure that the wood is really dead - sometimes they seem to come back to life. Especially when I start watering them seriously some branches/trees revert to the green color.

I needed to trim them back anyway, so I already have trimmed them.
