repot when not dormant?

I just bought a VdB in a way-too-small pot with the roots oozing out of the holes in the pot. Is it ok to repot when not dormant or should I wait?

I asked this not too long ago. Folks mostly said it was okay, but be careful with the roots. I went ahead and repoted two of mine and they are taking off now just as before without any negative side effects.

The sooner the better, Brenna. BTW, I noticed your birthday... my daughter was also born 12/20/1980.
Welcome to the forum!

Thank you, chadspur and figgary! I felt so bad for poor Violette. I just had to rescue her!

I plant in ground anything during the growing season because of lack of time. Never lost a tree so repotting should be fine. Lost fruit but never a tree.
Enjoy our forum you just joined liads of info and good people. Use the search bar and think of any question about figs from seeds to trees. Its all there.

I've (carefully) repotted growing figs. It's never seemed to bother them.

Have had ants move into a pot.  Pulled out the plant, washed all the media with ants out of the roots with hard spray and re-potted it.  No problem.

Figs are tougher than we think.

I just up potted several.  Took them a day or two to perk back up, but they're fine.  The VdB is worth repotting.  They'll be so much better off afterward.
BTW, I am a 12/20/54, but kind of interesting coincidence.

Maybe loving figs is a Sagittarius thing!  There should be a poll on the astrological signs of the forum members :)

Pisces.  My figs love fish. :)

Welcome Brenna. I am a sagittarius too. There shouldn't be a problem to repot when they are not dormant. Where I am living, the plants grow all the time...no dormant period.
