Repotting or not for fruiting fig tree?

I have two fig trees, oneVDB, one panachee, in 5 gallon nursery pot. I bought them last fall. Now each has 30+figs on it, which is great. But I feel the growth is slow and wonder whether it's wise to repot to a bigger pot. Would it disturb the fruits? Thanks so much for advice!

Wow, they look really productive.  It's no surprise that the growth has slowed because the plants are putting their resources into getting the fruit ripe.  If it were me I would wait until the fruit ripens and then move to a larger pot either later this Fall or in the Spring.

Nice looking plants!
I agree with Steve.
Also since they are young plants you may want to thin (drop) a few of the figs that look like they won't ripen and that should help towards getting the remaining figs bigger and sweeter.  Enjoy!

Thanks to both of you. I will wait until fall to repot, and pinch a few small ones off.

I have a different experience uppotting with the fruit every time. You will do no harm and your figs will be bigger and better tasting . One important factor for figs as fruit is the moisture consistency which is hard to achieve in a small pot and large roots.
Basically, I would uppot it but try to disturb the roots a little only.

Yes, you could up-pot with little or no root disturbance now.  Then when dormant, strip away most of the soil, prune the roots, and make sure they are not circling the rootball.

All right. I got a project for weekend. Thanks so much to all three nice fellows. I will post the fruits when they are ripen.

Hi,
They look like coming out of the shop.
For how long have they been by you ?
I would pot up. Just slip them out of the pot and put them in the new. Don't shake the roots - let them as is.
In which usda zone are ? in ground possibility ?
A bigger pot will help the trees in getting more consistent water, and nutrients which will stress them a lot less and help them with fruiting.

I bought them around last October. At that time I didn't know much about gardening so I missed the opportunity to pot up then.
I live in San Jose, zone 9b.
Thanks!
