Requiem for my Sicilian Brown

Today , hubby and I checked the Sic Brwn tree. There was absolutely no growth , branches snapped , scratching upper part of 6' tree showed no green whatsoever.

Took the large loppers and trimmed it down to about 2' . Only the very center seems to have a white/grn color , mostly white. I don't know if it is dead or alive .
I figure I'll leave it alone now and possibly , hopefully parts of the very lower trunk and roots may still  be alive.
Of course this was one tree I hadn't taken any cuttings from last fall. It happens... :((

Show us photos.  Scratch the bark.  If there's green underneath it's alive.  Keep it warm and fertilize it.

Pattee...I thought I lost my 3 year old Strawberry Verte this past winter due to serious freezing weather back at the end of January...it was about 5 feet tall at the time, and one of my nicest trees...so I yanked it out of the ground in February, and placed the frozen root ball in a pot just in case...after pruning it back a little at a time, all that was left of living tissue was a 5" stump, about 2" in diameter...I thought for sure it was a gonner, I even placed it over by the side of the storage shed for spring disposal...but to my surprise it started to break bud around mid April and is now all leafed out with new growth between 6" to 9" long...so I have one of my favorite trees back for many more seasons(I hope), although in a somewhat shorter version...good luck with your tree:  "It ain't over 'till it's over".

Bob , I'll get some pics up later today if I can. It's in a microclimate - very warm ,sunny  in an alcove by the house - temps are 80+ ish next few days. I've been giving all my trees weekly solution of fish/sea weed emulsion .

Vince , Thanks , I'm hoping it's not a goner . I cut it down to 2' , but may have to go shorter. I'll scrape the bark later today to see if there's any green left on that trunk. Hoping maybe the roots have some life in 'em !

Yes, Vince is correct. Prunning it back will allow shoots to come up. As long as there is a root system. I live in Chicago and this has happended to me numerious times. It happend this winter to my Peter's Honey. I'm not too worried because I know that it will come back.
Good luck with it and hope it comes back.

Have the other plants done well with that mixture?  I sprayed something like that on some plants and it killed them.

Bob I use a weak solution ( 1/2 of recommended dosage), weekly / weakly. This is the first season I'm trying it on my figs after seeing a post by Hungryjack and the "fishy water" poured on a very young fig tree that looked 3-5 yrs old and it was only 1 1/2 . I always used it on my veggie garden with great results . I did not spray it on the leaves - root feeding only . So time will tell.

I  read just recently that solution of fish emulsion used on tomato plants will eliminate tomato worms . I never had that worm problem on Long Island , maybe because I used fish emulsion ?  : ))

Well I scraped the bark at the bottom of the trunk and it came up green ! So the rumors of it's demise may be premature , I hope .
Also my unknown that's the only tree I have planted in ground has leaves pushing up from the ground ! Salt water and all ! One of the reasons I love figs . :)

Green is "good", Pattee...sounds like there's still life in that root ball...best of luck.

Thanks Vince , I'm keeping my finger crossed . The figs from that tree last year were very sweet , so I'd hate to lose it.
