Rescuing freeze damage saplings.?

Can anyone tell me how to bring back young potted figs from what looks like freeze damage? I was helping an older gentleman ,with health issues, clean up and well he had a few dozen plants we thought were gone.
After inspecting them many had good roots and some living wood , less than an inch, ..my question is should I bury the short trunk or should I leave it above ground. There is no node on the good wood. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. Terry from sunset,la.. Oh the varieties are smith,Scott's black, hollier,Santa Cruz,Flanders, black Madeira,orphan..

I would cut close to the ground, leave 1 1/2 or 2 inches, and then give them a give shot of 1/2 strength MC or other fertilizer. Also, try to keep the roots nice and warm, maybe even place some black landscape cloth over the dirt in the pots. The added heat on the roots will help. Another possibility would be to put a cut 2 liter bottle over each on to create a humidity dome + warmer air around the reduced trunk nub.

I did give them a dose of miracle grow but I like the dome, heat set up. I will definitely get that done tomorrow
Thanks a million.

If it were me I would just fertilize a bit (as you already have) and keep them watered regularly.  Let the pots sit in a warm microclimate like next to a south facing brick wall.  In your zone it should be getting quite warm and humid before long anyway and I would be careful with any attempts to artificially add more heat and humidity.

Thanks for the advice . I really wanted to save the b Madeira since it was just one . And I don't have any other. I was told to bury them .and really wanted to have some wood above ground. I did place some in garbage bags, inflated and taped shut. Pecan trees have not leafed out yet so we still have frosts coming. I will watch em and try not to kill them with kindness.
