Review of fig suppliers in Canada for Canadiens…

Hi Ottawan,
I am relying on my own observation of the BT being a Celeste, as well as identification by Herman2.  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=5393061   Main crop has been on now close to 2 months, no red eye yet.
and it has been mentioned elsewhere that Natalina is traditional name for a fig that ripens around Christmas time, Grimos natalina ripens main crop in mid to late summer or early fall. I cannot comment on his other varieties since I do not have them or in case of Bifara, it has not fruited yet.

Grant,

Long ago and way before I join this and the other forum I placed an order from them. The staff was friendly and helpful.

If I can remember I ordered four fig trees from them. The were nice 3' to 4' whips with heavy roots. Each and every one was different from the other.

Don't have them no more since they were killed long ago due to lack of experience in Winter storage.

Not trying to argue your case but perhaps yours could have slipped through the cracks? It does happen you know.

I think the most dependable sources are right here on this forum.

I am beginning to think these figs do the Chameleon affect on us. Meaning, change color, size, shape, taste and etc. etc.

I had someone bring a bucket of Celeste in to work the other day and ask me if I wanted some Brown Turkey figs.

It took every ounce of my being not to kick them in the ass repeatedly.

Instead, I asked, "Why do you believe this is a Brown Turkey?"

They responded, "Well, it's brown and it's a fig.  That makes it a Brown Turkey, right?"

Like I said ... it took every ounce of my being not to kick them in the ass repeatedly.  As a fig lover, this mentality of "every brown fig must be a brown turkey" makes me want to spout off expletives.

I thanked them, took a half dozen of the ripest figs, and sent them along with a ton of pictures and info about what BT looks like vs. Celeste.

Ugh.  A day in the life of a fig nut.

Hi Rafed,
I agree that they are very friendly and helpful, and as well the quality of their products is very high.  No complaints there. and I am not really complaining about getting a Celeste instead of a BT .... I ordered the BT before learning that it was considered by many to be just about the worst tasting fig anywhere anytime. The gist of my post was a heads up , you may not get what you think you are getting as far as Grimo's figs go.  And I also agree with your thinking that the most dependable source of figs is from people on this forum.

Jason,...
I really enjoyed your post.

I have to agree with you Grant. But how often do we follow our own advice?
Often we find out when it's too late. And only then if we are lucky we will find a place like this and learn we weren't the first and definitely not the last to me taken.

Jason,

It's moments like these when you wish the late Sam Kinison was still around.
He would've given them an ear full that's for sure.
