Hi everyone i am on vacation in R.I and visiting my uncle Peter's farm and I figured some people would like to see some pictures of his figs. This is one huge fig and pictures don't do it justice. My uncle is 81 and every winter he puts walls and a roof around this fig so it wont freeze and in the spring he takes them down. I brought him one of my salce figs and in return he gave me 
an Acciano fig witch i didn't have in my collection. The Acciano is in the last pic. these are black figs and are super sweet and are huge.

Wow! That huge old fig tree is amazing!  In Rhode Island!  Now that takes dedication.

Nice tree! When he gets the tree ready for winter how low does he cut it? Looks like he has a permanent frame to attach the walls and roof. That is something that I'd like to do later. I need some practice first. I'm learning as I go.

How old is the tree...and how many years has your uncle taken care of it?

If you visit your uncle when he protects his tree I'm sure we would all love to see pictures of how he builds that House. 

If you double click on the third pic. you will see some figs up close, my uncle pics a few 5 gal. bucket of figs of this tree. The small trees in pots are air layers of the main tree my uncle makes about 20 to 30 off this tree every year and when he cuts the air layers they are already 2 to 3' tall. As far as selling them he only sells them if you go to his house he will not ship, if you go to his house be prepared to drink some wine or you are going to hurt his feelings. If anybody is willing to go to R.I pm me and i will send his address. Also two of those 3' pots are going home with me to ky. The tree is at least 15 yrs old and he believes in miracle grow a couple of times a year. As far as the house he has posts in ground every 4' then takes a sheet of ply with insulation glued to it and bolts it to post. The branches he pulls them down and in and ties them with a rope the ones he can't pull down he cuts off.

My daughter is a senior student at Brown Unv. in Providence RI.
(her older brother also graduated from there - heck, my car
can go that 4 hr. drive by itself nowadays).

Anyway, my daughter; knowing fig-me, pointed 2 figs
trees growing nearby where she was staying.

Late last spring,  I had a long friendly fig-conversation with the owner.
Both figs were loaded with breba.
Asking for fig names; I was surprised he had any (walla):

'California Brown' and 'Turkish Black'. 

Another 2BTs ?!?!

Anyway, I ended getting a few cuttings from both and currently I have
at least one spare rooting each for ship-cost for anybody wanting them...

Asking what he wanted in return ... his answer was a WHITE fig!
So later, I sent him a little assortment.

Yeah i take note George cause after he ate brown turkey figs which they sound like they might be he figured better try a white fig.

George give him a dark type you have plenty good ones.

I kept telling the guy that most likely:

Cali Br = Cali BT
and
Trk Blk = BT

His face told me that he had never heard of the BT 'term' before.

One thing is for sure, his 2 trees are different.
He mentioned that he favored one over the other about hardiness/sweetness.
I do have a paper-note about that, but right now I cannot find it... 

I'm passing through the area this coming week on my way to Boston. I'll be stopping by.

   Great to see other Rhode Islanders growing figs,As soon as I figure out how to up load pics I will show you my collection.If you ride around the Portuguese Greek and Italian neighborhoods you will see tons of beautiful potted and in-ground trees growing beautifully.

George, congratulations it is quite an accomplishment to be able to send 2 kids to Brown University . My uncle informed me today that he didn't want to sell any of his figs, so to the people that send me a pm i am sorry. But do not fear my other uncle Louie which lives 1/2 mile down the road from my uncle Peter has plenty of figs he has some as big as 6 feet some 4 feet some 3 feet all in big half 55 gal pots his prices are $55 for 6' $35 for 4' $25 for 3'

Yeah; raising kids is not easy/cheap nowadays!
It also happens that my son's wife graduated from the same place.
I keep telling my wife that now we have 3 BTs (pun intended).
BTW, knock on wood, I will be a proud 'grandpa' in a few months time...
