Ripe fig?

Finally, it looks like I am going to get a ripe fig. I noticed this fig yesterday and I took the picture today. It more purple today. It must have started Saturday. I'm starting at it like its a painting and I am trying to figure out the meaning. One, I just want to know how many more days do you think it needs from here. Two, I am in NJ and we have had  a really rainy week. I think it is over 10 inches last week and we got a lot last night. The next three days will be nice and we might get more rain a hurricane by the weekend. Should I pick this fig sooner or any ripening figs sooner becuase they have had so much rain?

Let it wait until just before there are heavy rains.  It dosen't look ripe to me.

Yeah, I figured it was not ripe yet. I think we may get thunderstorms thursday or atleast a chance of thunderstorms. Ten Friday will be nice and the weekend is up in the air with what will happen.

Is this one in a pot if so no worry about rain move it under something so rain does not hit it and wait till it ripens .

Martin that is a good suggestion, however, I believe this fig will ripen before Friday. It should droop a bit when it is closer to being ripe then you will know. Very exciting when your first fig ripens or the first of any variety!!!

Thanks guys, they tree is in grOund near the house so it Gets a little protection.

i know the pain of waiting for the fig to ripe. been waiting forever for my figs to ripe. VdB finally ripen starting 8/14. i look for slight winkle on the skin, and give it squeeze test to see how soft it is. i like the test when it's fully ripe, but then the texture is like jelly.

now i'm waiting for my paradiso gene to ripe. the tree got knocked off two nights ago due to heavey wind and rain. it has about 5 figs on it this year (first year fruiting). i think this one will ripen around october.. will have to try it with beer.

This fig was soft, but I'm going to leave it until I'm sure it's ripe. I really want to id this tree. I think it was a little darker this morning.

I would wait to see slight cracking and stretching of the skin. Its amazing how 1 day can change the taste dynamic of a fruit (fig).

This year with Celeste and Tiger I left them on till they hung straight down ,dead soft,  outer skin split, color ran up through the neck.
When the Tiger made it all the way plus a drop of sugar syrup at the eye, they were chewy near the eye, like sweet gumdrop. But only 3 or 4 made it this far.
It is allways a waiting/gamble with the rain, splitting, and the animals.
Luck
Dave.
