Ripe Monrovia BT & Colasanti Dark

Ok here are some pics of my first ripe Brown Turkey from Monrovia huge fig weight was 160 grams. Eye completely open, enough for me to fit the tip of my pinky right through it. Should of left it another day or two but it was starting to rain yesterday so I just picked the Brown Turkey or I would have split. Taste of the Brown Turkey was very good, sweet, thin skin and really nice flavour. Colasanti dark was excellent tasting nice and sweet with a lovely berry flavour definate keeper.

CUT COLSANTI DARK

CUT MONROVIA BROWN TURKEY

Wow that's a big fig. Glad to hear you enjoyed Colasanti dark looks like a good fig

Thanks Sal, Funny think is this plant lost all its main crop figs in the first week of may due to 3 nights of frost. About 2 weeks later I noticed allot of new figs starting to form. My parents had ate a few of these figs in the last week but this was my first one and I really enjoy it, it has a destinct berry flavour I really like.

Morning Nel, I haven't seen a squatty BT. May be its not a Monrovia BT, could be some variety that was mislabeled. If so, good for you. I hope its a productive tree.

............thats good feedback for Colasanti Dark. I hope my coming Colasanti can give me a crop next yr. Any idea how old is your Colasanti ?

Good Morning Paul, This BT Fig is the only one that has this shape the others are not flat like this at all its one of those weird things that happen in Nature I guess. Here is a better Pic that shows how the other figs do not have this shape this picture was taken this past sunday 5 days before being picked and you can see the stripes starting on that fig I picked.

The Colasanti I picked this fig from is two years old, as is my other Plant. I rooted a cutting from this plant this year and gave it to my mother in April for her birthday and her plant is 5ft tall now and has about 2 dozen figs on it. Paul you should get figs next season from your plant.

Good for you that your getting ripe figs after some trying times you had tis season with your pet.
More to come im sure. Keep the pictures coming.
Thanks

Thanks Martin oh that pescy Cyprus is real good at damaging my figs, he has recently been picking off my unripe figs that I have on my Balcony. One of these days I will be putting some Piri Piri " Portuguese Hot Sauce" on the figs see how he likes it lol.

@Paul:  I had some similar squatty figs on my BT, also from Monrovia.  Here are pics of some of the breba:  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=4767918

@Nelson, glad to see you picked, but I almost think you picked a day or two early.  My BT tends to get super jammy and almost taupe-colored around the edges when it's reeaaaallly ripe.  If you can wait until the skin starts to crack, you won't see all the individual flower parts inside, it just turns to lucious gooey as-good-as-it-can-get-considering-its-a-BT goodness.

I picked my first main-crop BT (Monrovia) fig today.  I wanted to share also, since I just ate what I could ... seems as if it wasn't totally pollinated or something on the inside, but the ants started eating the outside 2-3 hours ago, and already put a nice dent in it, so I pulled it so *I* could enjoy it also ;)

First pic is 3 days ago.  All other pics are today.

PS - just for the record, the top lighter part of the fig tasted nothing but watery.  the farther i got towards the eye and the more strawberry colored part, the more the flavor set in.  i could possibly be alright with eating BT if I cut the bottom 25% off and ate only that.  but even then, eating the best part of the BT it would taste like a mediocre Celeste, I think.

Jason you are right another two days would of been very helpfull but the eye was so opened that I could see the interior of the fig, and it was starting to rain so I didnt want to take any chances. The dark part of the fig was very good, I was actually surprised as Im not a that big a fan of Brown Turkey's but I really enjoyed it. Definate keeper see another fig starting to ripen on the tree now but the shape is completely different not flat like this one actually that was the only flat fig on the plant.

I definitely get a weirdo on my tree every now and then.  Did you see this one?  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=40726802&postcount=1
