Ripe Violette de Bordeaux and LSU Purple Fruit

Here are some fruit that I picked this morning. VDB is on the left. It is the first VDB main crop fig of this season. The fig was sweet and had good flavor. The two on the right are LSU Purple main crop figs. They were sweet but otherwise bland.

Here is the VDB tree.

Since you get main crop so early, have you looked at some of the rare varieties that will produce 3 crops a season?

Hi Dominick,

Which varieties are those?

I'll have to find it. There were a couple in researching that suggested with the right climate 3 crops were possible.

According to Bass site:

Black Brazil
De Tres Espelts

I should look into those varieties.  The growing season is long here.  The trees wake up around late Februaury or early March and they don't go dormant until mid December.  Last year I had 3 trees that started ripening figs in mid summer and kept ripening figs on and off until about the first week of December, although the figs stopped tasting sweet by late November.
