rock dust question

does anyone know what store sells rock dust ?
I need to mix it with my back yard soil for planting, I heard is very beneficial.
does anyone know what specific rock dust they are talking about when it comes to gardening?

isn't the one that they make concrete out of it too?

Some say granite rock dust. Today I got stone dust because that's what they had. Priced at .10/lb.

Azomite.  Excellent product.

yes but where do you get the stuff? they don't sale it in nurseries or Home Depot

Ask your local master gardeners...I get it at a non profit garden center here in NorCal about 50$ for 50lb bag. This is in the "dust" form. Amazon has 2lb bags but it's 9$ for that! I guess if you just need a little bit get it from amazon...

You can buy a large bag direct from them...

I use both the Azomite and Gaia Glacial. They are great products. You won't get the same stuff at a local gravel pit!

Glacial Rock Dust?
Try Planet Natural:

[They have a large selection of rare soil-amendments - I did buy from them before, & was satisfied.]

I got azomite on eBay with free shipping, check it out.

what's Azomite? and what are the benefits?

Azomite is a type of "rock dust", which is an organic soil additive used to add trace elements back into the soil.  It's essentially a pulverized rock, but it's made from rock that is mined in areas that have very high levels of trace elements (which is why in a previous comment I mentioned it's not the same as a local gravel pit).  Different types of rock dust may have different elements and at different levels, which is why I use both the Azomite and the Gaia.

Scientists figured out years ago that you don't need much more than Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potassium (N-P-K) to grow a plant.  Those are all "macro" nutrients.  But to have the healthiest and most nutritious plants/fruits, there are a bunch of other trace elements ("micro" nutrients) that the plant (and humans!) need in small quantities including things like Manganese, Zinc, Copper, Iron, etc.

Many of these elements are not present in commercial fertilizers, and certainly not in commercial agriculture, where profit takes precedence over health.

Rock dust is a natural way to add those trace elements that get used by the plants back into the soil.

wow great stuff! I'm all for it, thanks for all the information

There are other options such as Axilo mix 5.  It is concentrated and supplies all the minors.

The below website will show you distributors of Azomite. Ebay is a good source but I found out the it is much cheaper to buy the 44 lb bags locally if available. I picked up two bags for $20 each this past spring near Latrobe, Pa.
