This fig was brought over to Rockaway beach 50 years ago from Palermo. It has been growing since then in the sand, with about 6 inches of top soil on top of the sand. I beleive it is in the adriatic family because of it's late ripeneing here and the blood red center of the fig. Its thick skin allows the fig to ripen to perfection without souring or wasp attack. Fantastic tasting fig. I enjoyed these with some chicken marsala made by forum member Angelo. Angelos wife said it was the best fig she ever tasted. I have to say it is pretty damn good.

Another super looking fig. Thanks for showing Ed.luke
Great color contrast between the red and green. Nice cracks too.
Ed,Those are perfectly ripe. Nice!! Have you posted this one before? Can we see the leaf types? Thanks!
Will post a picture of the leaves in a day or two. I have not posted this fig before.
The black figs are 2 each of Ronde de Bourdeau, Malta Black and Sals. Also a few paw paws.
Love the blood red interiors, Ed. The closest to these, I have personally seen and tasted, are green ischias.
Those are some fine looking figs!
Ed was kind enough to leave me some ot these Rockaway Green. All I can say is that everything else I have compared it to this year is no match for this fig.I've had the pleasure of tasting many exotic varieties and I like both dark and light figs equally. Thanks for the treat. Angelo Zone 7A NY
Frank,It looks like the Ischia Green/Verte to me too. All the way to the flattened neck. Just wanna make more sure.
Impressive! Huge fan of the green outside with the red inside!Suzi
