Ronde de Bordeaux

I just had to try this fig today.  It was sweet and thin skinned.  I'll try to keep the next one on longer to see if it improves even further.

Thanks Tom. I just posted on your other RDB thread. After your comments here and the pic
I believe I picked mine too soon and the rain but I didn't
want to give it a chance to suck up more water.

Tom, it looks good enjoy,
mine just turned color yesterday, and this morning a Blue Jay was enjoying it, the Bird did not want to take a chance, that I pick it before him.
have to go buy a net.

hiya, tom, mike. is it true that RdB are the best tasting figs ever?

Susie, no not to me anyway. I have not tasted a Black Madeiera but will soon. I personally like Black Malta
the best. A good ripe Tacoma Violet is really good also.

thanks mike.  glad to hear your choices. I;m not interested in exclusive varieties, I just wanna find the best tasting ones. I wrote down your picks.

That is one delicious looking fig!!!

Thanks for the video Tom .
Perhaps as you get more ripe figs on your Ronde the flavors will concentrate more and the interior will be of a darker color as in our climate with Ronde.
The best is yet to come for you.  ; )

To me, RDB is good but not the best. They are pretty productive though. My tree is in its 4th season.

Jason, which ones are the best to you?

To date I would say a nice ripe Negronne was better than the RdB so far.  I was expecting it to be a darker red.  I took to takes before cutting it saying I expect a dark red interior.  When it wasn't I edited it out.  I think this tree is three now so it should get better.

I agree with Tom, Violette de Bordeaux(negronne) type figs are my favorite when conditions are ideal. I also am a big fan of JH Adriatic that I tried this year.

Hey Tom, I will definitely anticipate another tasting of 160-50, and the other numbered variants.

I've also fantasized about Vernino as a primo "potted tropical fruit" candidate.

A high quality fig. It has been one of our best sellers this year. Out of the fifty one gallon pots we started, we sold about forty already.

Once it starts bearing it is a heavy bearing fig, that is more then just a sweet fig.

We have had our's in ground now for four years. It bends to the ground very easily without breaking.
We were able to bend four year old trunks to the ground without breaking.

This is a very important feature for those who have to winterize their figs.
