Ronde de Bordeaux Figs Starting

Hi,
Some of my Ronde de Bordeaux figs are starting to ripen on my young tree.
Here is picture of one.
I post pictures when its ripe.

Hi Martin.  That is a fantastic looking fig.

I'd have to take out a loan to afford one though!  Wow!  ;-)

These were selling for a very impressive price on ebay.  It is definately a very beautiful fig though.  Thank you for sharing this great pictures.

Hope you are well my friend, and hope you are having a great summer.

Best wishes.

Hi again Martin.  Sorry to bother you, but how do you get your name on your picture like that?  That is a very nice touch.  I finally got a digital camera, and I have even posted a few pictures now, but I have no idea how to do that.

Best wishes.

John

Hi John, was just out to HS Stadium watching daughter in the marching band and came home right before it starting getting dark and looked at Ronde it turned more darker in the 4 hours from last post it may be ripe sooner than i thought and curious as to how it tastes.
Yes some went for $ but the other i doubt very much now.

The writing in my pictures is a form of water mark to make them unwanted by follks to lazy to take the time and many pictures to get a nice one and posting it on ebay or elsewhere. I can change to any wording, put in any place on picture and any size i want to make it.  It took my daughter to help me and i sometimes play around with the program offline cause im still unfamilar with its setting but once set i try not to change.
Need more info email me.  ; )

No question that your this picture of Ronde De Bordeaux, like every other picture of this fig I have ever seen on Internet, shows the beauty of the fruit of this variety.
I hope to try to grow it next year (a promised air-layer from a fig friend in Canada).

Now the weather at night during time of this fruit getting ripe had fropped into the high 40s sometimes low 50s and during day 75 for high sometimes little lower.
I picked this fruit a little while ago and it was real good.
For those of you that like Violet de Bordeaux this one is pretty close in taste coming from my tree thats 1 full season old and comparing to my VdB thats 4 full seasons old.
This of course is on my palate and yours may differ perhaps.
I really enjoyed this fig although only 1 and have a few more that are near the ripe stage.
Enjoy

Ciao Martin, looks like a stubby relation to Violette, I see why called "Ronde" it is soo pretty and round. Thanks for posting, can't wait to try mine next year.  Hopefully will be hot like this year. Thanks for post Ciao Martin.

I prefer it over Negronne in taste. I don't like the skin on the Negronne it's usually tough, but the Ronde I like the sweet soft skin on it. It has the perfect balance of flavor.

sure do like the looks of that fig

Hi again,,
the skin yes is softer than my Violet de Bordeaux, now to me VdB skin is very acceptable and Ronde even more so. I really need to eat more of these (ronde) for a better gauge of fig but for a first impression i like indeed. Looks are very similar this type like Maggie stated is more rounder than VdB like the others i see getting ripe where as my VdB is more i think they call it elongated not as round . Before i forget so far the eye is more open than my VdB .

To date the softest skin i touched and actually was rubbing today with my hands it seems so smooth and eaten is my Santa Cruz Dark it just melts in your mouth it seems . This is one that first impression was not
oh thats good, but thats me and others may really enjoy its taste.
I will say the overall texture of ScD is excellent its very soft to the touch and mouth.

My RdB is now in the top of production, it is clearly my earliest fig.
Summer has been drier than usual but the last days it rained 30 mm  (1.18 inches) of rain, because of this, the figs are more swelled.

Despite the rain, they are very sweet and delicious. The splitted one in the picture (the pictures have been taken this morning) tasted like berry jam.

My inground Rdb tree is 4 years old and I have noted a clear improvement in the taste and production compared to the past year.

I have said it more times; a must have variety in my humid, mild and cloudy climate.

Ciao Axier, What beautiful pics, the last almost looks like Ronde fruits on a treano tree, the leaves just jumped out, I know it is very different and your tree is beautiful. Ciao

Very nice pictures Axier. I'm glad to hear it tolerates the humidity well, mine will be put to the test next season

Hi Axier
always nice to see your posts and pictures . With Ronde here in yard so far so good with things i see about it and its so young.
I look forward to seeing more of your posts and comments in future of your plants.

Thanks

Thanks for the compliments!
Maggie, the leaves in the picture are the typical shape in RdB, as I said in other post, RdB is an easy variety to identify.
Sal, RdB tolerates well the rain, but you know that there are not figs that bear an strong rain. For example, after the past rains, there are a few RdB figs with an small crack along the eye, no problem anyway.
Martin, I know that you like a lot RdB, in my opinion you have done a good choice. In France is a very appreciated variety, but in USA has been a relatively little known one until a few years ago. Years ago I posted a thread in GW forum wondering why this excellent variety was so unknown in USA. Fortunately it is increasing in popularity.
By the way, I like your pictures too!
Regarding the taste I want to clarify that it is very sweet but never dull sweet like LSU Gold (at least my LSU Gold) or other varieties, RdB is always strong flavoured.
