I have moved to LA zone 8. That is Springhill, La . I have room for possibly 3 fig trees. I am wanting something sweet with a Strawberry or cherry taste? What re fogs would you plant if limited to three and where could I get them? Mike Hughes
Not strawberry or cherry, but most people describe it as delicious. In your climate Figo Preto should be one of them in your trio.
My apologizes, I saw LA and thought Los Angeles. In your area I'd say JH Adriatic or Smith. Smith is more finicky for me dieing to the ground in it's first year, only one out of 12 varieties to do so. Time will tell how it will do though.
No I want to try a strawberry type flavor as well. I just want something with a different taste than the Chicago Hardy I tried in IL. Didn't like the Chicago one at all. Of course area might have affected the taste. Mike
I would second the Adriatic JH suggestion if you want a sweet, berry tasting fig. People here have posted how Adriatic JH tolerates rain, heat, humidity and wide temperature swings, ripens better in colder climates and still develops a great berry flavor before it’s at the “dead ripe” stage so you can enjoy the fruit over a longer period of time. It even has a “story” behind it.
LSU Hollier or LSU GoldVentura(for strawberry flavor) or VerteEnglish Brown TurkeyThese all do well here (close enough to be neighbors).Check your Private Messages.
