so.. i more or less gave up on Socorro Black. it looked like it wasn't doing anything. no bud, no leaves.

then today, i noticed that it had roots coming out.

usually, i always see the leaves long before roots. but decided to give it another try. i potted up in 1 gal pot and left it on sunny location to see if that will push out the leaves.

will update on what will happen to it.

Nelson once gave me a couple Turkish cuttings that grew roots like a birds nest but failed to break bud.

Hope you don't go through this.

That thought crossed my mind. I'll fertilize it and keep it in sunny area for a month or two. If nothing, I'll use the pot for something else. :)

I always feel better when I see roots first. All too often those first leaves just die and fall off anyway. I think you will be ok with this one

In my short experience with starting cuttings, roots developing before leaves is usually a good thing. Sometimes the plants that push out a bunch of leaves end up in trouble because they do not have the roots to sustain the leaves. Good luck with your Socorro Black.

right now i'm running into "leaves but no root" issue with Scott's Black and Smith. all of them are green cuttings. they started out wonderfully with 3-4 leaves. stayed in a bin for moisture.. then the cutting itselves were getting dried up. soon the buds were drying up and dropping off. i think Smith are done for. Scott's Black is still hanging in there.

funny thing one of the RdB was also green cutting, but it put out roots very fast and and took off with no issue.

maybe green cuttings also need some time in the baggie to get roots started before going into the cup.

Good to hear. Mother Nature is marvelous. We cannot rush her. As I read this thread, I kept thinking patience. A few sayings/"proverbs" come to mind. FYI. I had to look these up to make sure I had them right.
