Hi members,I'm trying to root my fig cuttings in water but after some weeks, no rooting occurs and worst of all, greenish mold appear on the cutting itself. Is there any way I can salvage this cutting ?
I've got a couple methods I use. Both seem to work really fast for rooting cuttings.Oreo cookie methodhttp://seattlegardenfruit.blogspot.com/2015/06/how-i-root-fig-cuttings-with-80-success1.htmltesting out another method for rooting cuttings. Perlite tunnel methodhttp://seattlegardenfruit.blogspot.com/2015/08/new-method-for-rooting-cuttings.htmlThese are recent up pots from Early to mid July cuttings. Which makes them anywhere from 5-8 weeks old (minus the taller air layer in the back)
Hi Thank you guys for the replies above.I have just cut off the part with mold. Previously I was using glass container to root and I wonder if that was the main cause of greenish mold forming. I left it in bright light area without covering the cutting. Means it's exposed. I guess I will have to change my rooting method. May I also know if rooting in water & then seal it plastic bags will help ?Right now I only left with these 2 cuttings. Hope to see some roots formation.By the way, I live in Singapore where it's a humid and warm place.
Oh, if you left it sitting in light, it was probably not mold, but rather algae. Depending on your local water. I've had various cuttings sitting in water that has turned bright green from the algae.
on this forum a Dan_la posted a series on water rooting 2013 i believe, should apply to late season also. Im going to try some also maryland
Yeah, it should be salvageable. Just wipe off the green slime/algae and change the water frequently, even daily. You could move it out of bright light too. That seems to be what algae likes most is LOTS of bright light.
