rooting cuttings

A man from the nursery I frequent brought about 6 cuttings from his fig tree.  They  range from 6-12" in length, one is still greenish and the others are woody.  There are about 4 leaves on each of them with little figs. He cut them either this past weekend or the weekend before.  The tree is about 100 miles away, he goes there on weekends They have been in water so the leaves look fine, the figs are a bit shriveled.

I assume the cuttings my mom sent looked like this when she first sent them out - they were terribly wilted when I received them so I cut the leaves off (they didn't have figs on them.

My question is, what is the best way to root these in this condition?  I don't have time for photos, I have to leave for work.  I will be able to post photos late tonight if needed.

Thanks for looking and any advice.

Hi Jo-Ann

Like you I have not tried to root green cuttings, here is what I did.

I cleaned the cuttings with 10% clorox

Then I wetted some Sprag. moss and let sit overnite then I wrung out all the water I could and placed about 1" of SM in the bottom of an unvented plastic container! Then I put the cuttings in the container and put about an inch of the SM on the top of the cuttings.

Then I put then in an extra bedroom where it is pretty dark!

I started them on 6-21
I now have nice roots!

I will cup them up this weekend wit 50-50 perlite & potting soil

Good luck.

I started 5 Gino's on sunday where the branch brook off. Three were green wood and 2 on lignified wood. The cuttings varies in length, from 6 to 9 inches with at least 3 nodes each.

Pot the cuttings in soil, minus the leaves on lignified wood and kept a tiny(1" size) leaf on each of the green wood. Put them in my inverted aquarium with filtered sunlight in the backyard. Will know whether they make it in a months time. I have had good success the last 2 seasons with what I am doing. Actually I have rooted a few variants this season using this method as well as got a few variants to break bud after 2 months of stubborness. Will take pictures and learn to post them.
