rooting cuttings in september

I,ve rooted many cuttings in the Spring with great success here in Connecticut now I am looking for some other species  Fig trees for my collection and I noticed there are some cuttings on ebay for sale now and I am wondering how you would root cuttings this time of the year? when the trees are ready to go into dormancy, I dont believe that you could start a cutting now and keep a cutting indoors thru the winter? ? ?  Thanks Dave

I think that it would be a challenge in Connecticut, I did it last November with a 50% success rate, but I live in North Florida. Some might suggest keeping the cuttings in the fridge until March, but you would be taking a chance, in my opinion.

I'm doing it now. No experience ( this late in the season) but hey I'll try. I have seen some have something going all the time. I believe I have read some who stick them in a vase with water then transfer later on after well rooted. usually takes a few months.

I'll  probably transfer to soil and  a bin in a month or so. Then maybe use a  grow light for a few months then let go dormant and wake up in mid spring.

Rooting the cuttings may or may not be a problem but looking after it for that long until spring of 2012 will be a little too much.
Honestly it was not a problem when I first started rooting. It was exciting for me as a beginner but now I feel it is too long to be worried by so many worries when taking care of them.

The problem I see it as is thus, what are you going to do when it roots?  Keep it by a window until april?  I feel the plant will be losing energy every day until then.  I always let the plant go dormant for a while so as to recharge.  Then I am in no rush to start them now because of what I first said.  It can be done but it's not an optimal situation.

I sort of am in the same situation. I started cuttings a few weeks ago. I debated waiting a few months and putting them in the fridge, but I have no experience doing that and I didn't want to risk it. It took a while to get access to this tree and I really want these cuttings to work. Last year my first year I started cuttings I did it in oct/nov the cuttings I didn't mess up seemed to be growing fine in the window until mid May when it was solidly warm enough out. I do agree that it was more work and worry then cuttings I got later and started.

i started rooting about 10 cuttings in aug. they have rooted and in 8" pot. they will go into garage once the temp is below 40 degrees or so. i don't really see much of problem.

i received 1 foot tall small trees last sept from east coast figs last year around 9/30/10. they stayed out till middle of nov before the temp dropped below 32 degrees. they didn't drop any leaves during the early part of the winter. they all came out fine in spring and grew to about 5-6 feet this year.

I have a few cuttings that are just starting to root, plus a few very young trees.  I plan on putting them in a old aquarium inside the house and keeping them growing as long into the winter as I can.  It would be like keeping a terrarium of fig trees.  I'll use grow lights, and keep the top mostly covered to hold humidity.  We'll see how it goes.

I started with cuttings from several fig trees in my garden. I placed them in a vase of water mid September and change the water once a week. To date, they have not sprouted any roots.  Also, have some in zip lock bags covered in wet newspaper. Still no success!    Any suggestions........Thanks....

I started about 15 green wood cuttings around September the 6. About 1/3 have developed the beginning of roots and or small  leaves.

I placed them together in a wide mouth jar until the leaf stems fell off. Then they were placed individually into green small neck beer bottles. The bottles were placed in direct sun light, and the water is changed once a day.

So far, there has not been any problems with mold or cuttings drying out.
