Rooting in Gel Beads

Hi Everyone!

I've just found a pack of gel beads (the kind you soak in water, they absorb, expand), and was wondering if anyone has had any experience rooting their cuttings in this medium?

Pros?
Cons?

What about a feeding the beads a nutritive solution to give the plant an extra boost?

Any info would help!

Thanks!

Ive thought about this and even posted about it. There is not enough air flow around the beads and they just rot. Sorry.

I agree with Aaron, also to much moisture. I tried a gel based rooting medium last year, 100% failure.

I tried it a few years ago with the results as Aaron posted. It seems like it would work, but the adsorption ( surface contact) ends up rotting the cutting eventually.

I have tried and it just didn't work.

What about just using the gels and a heat source to generate the required humidity for the cuttings to root? Maybe put the cuttings in some sort of cylinder with holes and bury it in the beads?

Everyone that used gel in any capacity has lost their cuttings, if you have extra to experiment on, then why not experiment.  Yet if you your cuttings are few and precious, I would not risk them on an experiment, rather stay with proven methods.
