On a recent vacation I was able to get 2 cuttings from 2 different trees.  I know I should have taken more - but the people were being nice by letting me take them - and I didn't want to start hacking away. So since I only have one of each I want to make sure I root them right.  They are each rooting in a clear plastic container (shoe box size) and roots are starting to form.  Here is my real question.  Once the roots get bigger and I move them to a clear cup with a perlite mix where do I put it?  Under a grow light?  on a window seal?  Outside with natural light (but in the shade).  The basic rooting directions on this site are great but don't seem to specify.  I know it seems like a basic question but this is my first attempt.  Thanks..Tony

Many other experts here, but ive had good luck with potting it and keeping it under a grow light for a few days WITH a bag over top to help keep the humidity high. If not, ive had some start to dry out and wither. After a few days, take the bag off but keep under light. Then transition it outside into partial shade. Baby steps.. Ive seen some that were put straight outside with good results as well..good luck

Outside =  no transition from indoor  to outdoor to deal with, more risk
as you do not control the elements or roaming critters.

Windowsill  with good light, once leafed out enough for you,
then transition to outside partial shade for 5-7 days,
then into the sun.

As soon as I put them in cups I put them under the corner of my house in the shade until they are leafed out pretty good,  then I move them to my back porch where they get just the last hour or two of evening sun. Then after that I can move them to full sun with no problem. That's just how I do it and what works for me.

I like to keep them inside until good and rooted, mainly due to wind and rain.  I even keep my up potted (1 gal) inside for a few weeks to control the watering, under grow light and in a window.

I transition to sun very slowly and I still end up burning leaves.  My deck has perfect transition, one side gets no direct sun and it transitions to full sun all day on the other.  I step them out, 1 week full shade, then 2 hrs AM sun 1 week, then 4 hrs, etc.  I find if it rains and the sun comes out the droplets on the leaves act like a lens and burn tiny circles!  This is when they are in transition.
