Yes, i'm from Portugal. Born and raised here.

Regarding your future plans, i believe you are referring to Algarve, a known destination to many European who end up there for their retirement, to benefit from the all those things you mentioned, lots of sun, excellent food, wonderful beaches and nice and warm people. 

Regarding areas, i can't help you there, but maybe Francisco, being retired in Algarve, can give you some suggestions :-)
