Rooting Summer cuttings?????????????

In order to increase my skill level with rooting cutings I'd like to try and root some Summer cuttings. I would think they might be easier.

Can anyone expound on this?

What is a Summer cutting? What part do you cut? Green, Soft, Woody?

What are the things to watch out for?

Thanks,

Charles,

There was a post about rooting summer cuttings on this forum some months ago.  If I remember correctly, it was started by DanLa who expanded on his method in some detail.  If you are looking to root cuttings from your own tree, I would suggest air layering as it is a relatively maintenance free method for propagating.

The greener the cutting, the easier it is to dry out and to rot. Other than making allowances for that, the general concept is the same.

Charles - see the link below.  This describes a very lazy method I've used for summer cuttings.  I'm in the northeastern part of PA, so for me I can usually do this around the end of May...

I have never seen that post, but I love it.  Worry too much, they die.  Ignore, they must prove themselves!  Going to try it.  I'm good at forgetting, and loving the surprises when they happen!  "What is this?" OH!  A fig!
