I'm new at figs. I bought cuttings of Texas blue giant and have a question about rooting. They are in a bag with moist paper towels doing great. They are showing a lot of root starts. One of the cuttings has massive amounts of roots the whole length of the cutting. When should this one go into 'soil'? What type of soil is best? Should it be placed horizontally to take advantage of all roots? Should it grow lots of shoots a this way?

I get them into cups ASAP after root starts, as the little roots are very fragile.  My mix is 2 parts MG pearlite and 1 part MG seed starting potting mix.  I don't know what's best but nearly any good well draining soil will work.  At this stage i like to keep them barely moist, and in a humidity bin.  Others do well with other methods.  I'm new as well and the fig bug is relentless.  I had none in January, now I have 12 in pots, 5 in ground...  Good luck you found a good site for fig growing.
