Roots All over

Hi,

I am new to the forum and the fig world, have been a lurker thus far. I got a few cuttings from rcantor and I have a few questions.
First i wrapped just the lower end of the cuttings in moist paper towels, but now I am getting roots growing out all over the cutting even just below the apical bud.
What should I do?

Second, one cutting appears to be growing a fig! Should I break it off?

Always break figs off from cuttings.

For the cutting, either plant it so all roots are below the soil line OR plant it horizontally, it's your choice.  I prefer planting it deep with only the terminal bud above.

Great, Thank you.  I will plant deep and vertical.

Congratulations on rooting the figs!  I plant those diagonal with the topmost roots pointing down.  I hold the pot diagonal so the cutting is horizontal and fill with soil to the level of the middle of the cutting.  I water and add more soil to cover the roots of the cutting.  I gently tilt the pot vertical and add soil to the bottom half and perlite to the top.  This means it's easier for a shoot to push up and a little light gets further down to signal the cutting.

I have some cuttings too that are growing roots all over, do I use regular potting soil or some mix with peat moss/perlite?

I used the 60%perlite 40% vermiculite in plastic cups inside a homemade greenhouse for the next stage, as per the link  http://figs4fun.com/basics.html
